Perci Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 Hi Ive used this forum quite a lot when I owned a A3 recently purchased a Q5 2.0 TFSI S-like plus from a local Audi specialist. I picked up the car last Saturday and drove it around all day and fell in love with it! Went out Sunday morning to give it a wash etc and it wouldn’t start. RAC came out spent 3 hours on it and still couldn’t start it! It got picked up on a low loader on Monday morning buy the dealer. The dealer has been great given us a courtesy car and aren’t trying to dodge paying for the repairs. They say the seal has ruptured on the ECU so the ingress of water has sent the car mad (understandably). My question is should I be retuning he car and ask for my money back as I worried this may be a bit of a “nail” or should I let them return it to me an hope nothing else goes wrong in the long run?
WPAWS Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 If the dealer is happy to pick up the bill putting the car right i would stick with the car m8 try and get the dealer warranty extended for your piece of mind and ask for the recipts of work carried out if possible
Perci Posted February 5, 2018 Author Posted February 5, 2018 Yea I do agree with you Paul but a little voice in the back of my head is saying get rid! Ha ha I’ve asked for all the warranty etc in writing. I’ve already got the standard 3 month RAC warranty and they say there should be at least 12 months on the ECU
Steve Q Posted February 6, 2018 Posted February 6, 2018 This is a tough one Robert. One the one hand I can agree with Paul if the garage are willing to foot the bill. However on modern, high tech cars electrical issues can cause numerous issues later down the line if that makes sense especially if the ecu is damaged. I'd be tempted to ask for your money back as it is (in my opinion) a big risk. Cheers Steve
nizamuk Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Hi After reading this i am bit worries ? What is ECU ? i am putting deposit to buy a Audi Q5 2014 reg 2.0 TFSI s Line Will this be a common problem ?
Perci Posted March 12, 2018 Author Posted March 12, 2018 Hi there is a recall on the coolant pump that wasn’t done on my car. The coolent pump had been leaking on to a connector that had then capillaried up the cable in to the ECU. The ECU is basically a computer that does most of the functions of the car. I’ve had mine fixed under warranty and haven’t had any problems since
nizamuk Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 Hi thanks for letting me know what happened as your intial post says happened after you washed the car ? any way problem solved enjoy the car , i have put a deposit for a Audi Q5 2014 2.0 TFSI S Line Plus Audi Approved one but the price is sky high £25500 milage is only 20,000 so any suggestions .
Perci Posted March 13, 2018 Author Posted March 13, 2018 No problem, no it didn’t happen after I washed the car I was just about to. They said they water had been creeping in for a while and it reached a point where it caused problems the day after I bought it! I see it as lucky now as it could have happened 6 months down the line! My only suggestions would be to get as much as you can for your money, ask for all the recalls to be done and get the paperwork, get a full diagnostic, inspect the car carefully in the dry and get and dints etc repaired. The laws are now different when buying a used car and the buyer has a lot more protection than before
