A6 Allroad how to remove rust from silver sills under doors

My 2006 Audi A6 All Road has some rust spots on the silver sills that run underneath the front and rear doors. I don't have a clue about cars and need some advice on how I might clean this rust up and hide it.

Have you got any pictures? 

Is the rust definitely on the door blades (polished bit) or is it on the actual doors?
