Bearded Mag Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 Areet All, Just bought myself an Audi A4 Avant 2.0TDI 170hp 2007/2008 and absolutely love it! Perfect Cod Mobile ;) However, I have a couple of issues crop up. 1st Issue. My driver window doesn't appear to work. All the other windows work fine using the switch panel on driver door. Is there a way to test if the motor is knackered before I take it all apart etc? Or would I need to do this to find a fault. 2nd Issue. I had a run in with a fox on way back from fishing the other night. Nothing harmed but I had a bit of a moment with a metal tripod and my rear view mirror. Basically it flew forward straight into the mirror and its knocked it completely off the windscreen. There is no damage at all to the mounting plate or mirror (surprisingly) but I've been to the Audi garage and Autoglass and both have said that I'll need to completely replace the windscreen. In my eyes it needs bonded back on but don't want to jump in feet first and end up having to replace the windscreen because I'm a bulb. Bit of a scrawl but cheers for reading Kris [:)
Steve Q Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 Welcome to the forum Chris, you'll find the members on here are a friendly and helpful bunch :) With regard to your first issue I'd advise you get a diagnostic check carried out to establish what the fault actually is. Your other option could be to replace the switch to see if that cures the problem. If it doesn't then you know it's more likely the motor that's gone. With regard to your second issue, the cheapest option would be to get the interior mirror glue you can get from your local motor factors. I've used both the glue and tape and confirm the glue is better. I've got this experience from my old Ford escort 😉 and as long as neither the base not the mirror are broken you'll be fine. Ie you'll need a clean break to reattach it. Hope that makes sense. Your other option is to pay your windscreen excess and gave a new windscreen fitted. Hope I've helped :) Cheers Steve

I'll get it over to the garage for a diagnostic at the weekend :) As for the mirror any tips on how to hold it in place whilst the glue sets? The break is clean and there's no damage or residue (if that's the right word) left on the windscreen. Thanks for your time!
WPAWS Posted February 28, 2018 Posted February 28, 2018 Welcome to the forums Nice friendly atmosphere here with plenty of Audi owners to help where they can. Please be sure to give the forum rules a quick view Paul 1

You'd probably have to hold the mirror in situ for 2-3 minutes atleast for the glue to set. Most of the glues take 24 hours to dry. I'd say it would take even longer in the cold temperatures.
