Ati Iqbal
Hi Community, I've recently noticed that my audi A4 2L diesel (134K on clock) sounds louder than usual. Whenever I start the car the sound of the exhaust is a tad bit louder then im used to, especially when driving on the road. Furthermore, when I hit acceleration I feel as if my audi sounds more like a loud sports car than a normal diesel. Now don't get me wrong, diesel cars ain't the most quietest however, the increase of noice seems like there maybe a problem with it and I would like to know what this may well be. Also I've noticed the sound itself is emanating out of the exhaust (rather than the engine) in my opinion. Do you believe there maybe a leak somewhere that could be causing this increase influx of noise ? Also, when I drive and put my car in neutral I've noticed the loud (sports like) noice stops and it seems normal again. May I ask, is this something I should be concerned with? Please help guys... Any clues to the resolution would be hugely appreciated. Thanks Ati
Magnet
Hello Ati, Welcome to the forum. When first reading your post, dislodging silencer baffles first came to mind, but then I noticed your car is only about 6 years old, so unlikely, but not totally out of the question. I'm sure you will appreciate that it is always difficult to diagnose such noises without actually hearing them, and I think you are wise to question something which appears to have changed, and indeed someone on here may come up with an answer. If it were mine, I would be seeking out a recommended local diesel specialist and asking them to listen to it and advise you. An Audi dealer or independent would not be my first port of call in this case. Local diesel specialists? Ask around your local taxi drivers - there should be sound advice there on who to go to, or more importantly, not to go to! Kind regards, Gareth. chrisde1982
I'm a bit late to the party here, but I have a 2013 A4 Avant 2.0TDi. Mine some times sounds much more "throaty" and after some research it became apparent that this can be because of a DPF regen cycle. I'm not sure what age your car is, but if it has a DPF and runs an active regen, then perhaps that is the cause? Unless it's doing it all the time of course. Mine does this for 15-20 minutes. I quite like the sounds of it, and have been trying to figure out a way of making it do it all the time :) Chris.
