Hi, I’m new to this forum but I was wondering if anyone knew of a problem that’s occurred with my b8 s4. After a very spirited drive and then a cruise, the engine proceeded to knock and cut out and now won’t restart at all. Won’t even turn over. I’m a vehicle tech by trade and have checked a few things out. Carried out diag with available autocom and got codes for multiple misfires and cylinder deactivation on 4,5 and 6. Checked plugs 4 and 5, unable to remove 6 😳. I found metal particles on 4 and 5 and a lot of oil on the plugs. Using a borescope, the pistons look damaged and a lot of oil inside the cylinders. Obviously this doesn’t look good, but I only bought this car because they are supposed to be bomb proof. Has anyone experienced the same or is it just a freak failure that will end up costing me thousands? Thanks Daniel

Welcome to the forum Daniel, you'll find the members on here are a friendly and helpful bunch :)

I can't say I've come across this whilst being on the forum but it sounds like the s4 would be in good hands as you're a technician by trade. I'd never try and tell you what to do as you are more experienced than I but I'd say the head needs to come off to see the full extent of the damage.

Cheers

Steve

Hello Daniel,

Really sorry to hear of your problem.

Belt or a chain on this engine?

Kind regards,

Gareth.

Hi Magnet, sorry for the late reply. I’ve been away over the weekend. This engine has chains, and 4 of them i think.
