Hey guys, new owner here! Got a 57 plate avant, 2.0 Tdi S-line quattro.

Absolutely love it, is extremely tidy and has about 62k miles on the clock.

Two questions. Firstly, it seems my ignorance has come back to potentially haunt me. When looking at A4's before I bought it, I found out and became aware about the dreaded oil pump issue which I thought was only on the BLB engines on the 2005 versions, so I stayed away from 2005s and 06's just to be safe from any late registered 05 models. But I'm reading now, that the 07 version also has the balancer shaft wear problem...?

Am I right to be concerned? Do I then go for the KMB modified shaft or look at converting to a geared system (if mine does have the shaft system?) I don't know much about Audi's, but I want to make this one last.

Secondly, I uave the standard audio system that my car came with from factory. So I'm assuming it doesn't have RCA outputs on it to connect an amp to for a sub (thinking a small single 10'' to compliment the already decent sound).

I'm sure I read somewhere that one if the types of sound system found in the 07 model has an unused plug dangling that can fit an adapter (sold by some place in the states) in it that has 2 pre-outs on it... I'd rather do that if possible than use the connector that splices into the speaker wire.

But... Is splicing into the speaker wire any good if I can't? Would the sound quality be decent still?

I'd like to keep the head unit standard for now (but may be open to a new one if it doesn't leave gaps all around it and doesn't look too out of place)... I'm kind of at a loss how to progress with this...

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum and Sam, you'll find the members on here are a friendly and helpful bunch 🙂

my advice to your first question is to ring Audi to see if your car is one that's affected and to see if Audi did any recalls. And then see if your car has or has not had a recall if applicable.

whsts the service history like on your a4?

in terms if the amp, my advice would be to wait until you've upgraded your head unit before adding sub and amps etc. Better to do it all together in my opinion.

Thanks Steve. I didn't realise they'd done a recall. I can't even remember on the service history to be honest, will check soon as I land back in the uk again. Regarding the head unit, yeah, you're probably right. Thanks 👍

I can't confirm they've done a recall but I have a suspicion they have. Don't ask me why though.

Definitely check the service history when your home or ring Audi.

Please let us know how you get on.

Hey again!

So, I went through the service history, no replacement done. Parts ordered from KMB, took it to ABTech (they seemed reasonable, and were good with keeping me updated). Old one has come out, new one went in. Looking at the old one, it had probably double the play than on the non worn section of the hex key, not taking into account the potential of the inside of the balance shaft having wear too. Id say it'd have done another 30k miles before potentially causing a problem. But, that's not a game I'd have been willing to play! I'm happy and content knowing it'll last now.

So... one issue down, another one becomes more apparent.

I had an issue with fuel also randomly cutting off for a split second at around 1700 revs, in addition to strong exhaust fumes out the rear not smelling like a typical diesel.
I asked them to have a look into it. They found the electrical plug for the DPF pressure switch had been disconnected and actually cut off the loom, and taped up, which SHOULD have left an 'open circuit' error for the ECU error coding, but doesn't.

They then disconnected the MAF sensor plug which should have thrown a code, but didnt. So it appears that a DPF delete has been done? Or it was causing problems or something?
They said there is no square patch of weld on the DPF itself which typically occurs from a cowboy job of removing the innards of the DPF... but it is still possible the parts may have been removed. Especially as I know the turbo at some point has been messed with as it had an incorrect oil feed union with an incorrect thickness copper washer on it (it had been leaking from it when I first got it).

Question is, is it likely the reason the electrical plug on the DPF pressure switch has been cut off is for the DPF delete? Is it possible the DPF innards may well still be in there? If they are, then what would have been the point of cutting the plug off?
Could this then potentially cause the exhaust to smell stronger than ussual, and also cause a slight running issue with the fuel cut off for a split second at 1700 revs?
Finally, with the ECU not throwing codes, how could they have done that? The garage said its possible they remapped it so it wouldn't be able to detect error codes or something. But I don't like the idea of it not warning me of issues which could threaten the reliability if there is something wrong that I am unaware of...
I'm so new to all this DPF stuff so excuse me if all the above seems a bit confusing, I'm still getting my head around it myself!

Also... is it possible to edit my topic heading in this thread? I don't really want to keep making a new topic for different issues etc >.<
