Neil Johnson Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 Hi all. I have a 2ltr tdi 140bhp sline that starts instantly when cold but takes a few turns to start when warm/Hot only a minor niggle with another wise fantastic car it's a 2005 car with 94000 miles any advice on how to sort this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Steve Q Posted August 28, 2018 Posted August 28, 2018 Welcome to the forum Neil, you'll find the members on here are a friendly and helpful bunch 馃檪 have you had a diagnostic check carried out at all? If not then this is what I would recommend. I'm guessing you're not losing any coolant etc. also it could be caused by failing crank sensors.聽 also what colour is exhaust smoke? As this can be a tell tale sign there's an issue.聽 cheers Steve
Neil Johnson Posted August 28, 2018 Author Posted August 28, 2018 (edited) Thanks Steve had a full carbon clean done recently and it had flagged up one of the glow plugs ,maf sensor and lumbar sensor but apparently the clean cleared all those faults! I didn't have the clean done to sort this problem but it made no difference to the starting issue but the car does run better! Think I will start with the glow plugs as this is a cheap job I can do myself! Thanks again. Btw very little smoke and not lost any coolant etc.聽 Edited August 28, 2018 by Neil Johnson More information
Steve Q Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 You're welcome Neil, glad I could help 馃檪 cheers Steve
Magnet Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Hello 聽Neil,聽 Personally, I would 聽forget glow plugs since these control the cold starting in cold weather. Your cold starting appears to be fine. Does the car smell of diesel, or push out a bit of聽smoke during聽it's brief attempts to start quickly when hot?聽 If it were mine, I would be finding a good local diesel specialist (ask your local taxi drivers for recommendations) and entrusting diagnosis to them. Injectors?? - but it could be due to a variety of causes.聽 Kind regards, Gareth.
