Socks or Chains

Looking for some advice based on experience in relation to Snow Socks or Snow Chains.

I’m driving to the French Alps next year for the first time for a skiing hols - do I buy snow socks or snow chains?

Alternatively, do I simply rely on the Quattro (s-line 3.0 avant) to cope with any potential white stuff that’s out in its path?

No idea. Youtube for some info on both 

But it goes without saying you will need good winter tires !
