chrisg007 Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 Hi all, Im new to the forum and looking for some guidance. Im looking to buy a 2017 A5 2wd with an automatic gearbox. I have read that they are unreliable and as I wanted it as a keeper Im a bit concerned and may go for a manual gearbox even though that's not what I want. Any experiences good or bad much appreciated. thanks
Envy Posted November 21, 2018 Posted November 21, 2018 My A6 has the 7 Speed S-tronic and it is the smoothest quickest changing auto I have ever experienced. BUT it does need servicing with an oil and filter change every 40K Miles I think with complexity comes unreliability if they do not get a fresh dose of oil and filter change periodically. The oil change is a specialist operation with the box having to be in temperature range when done so not a home job so budget this into your running cost expectations. With the manual you have the Dual Mass Flywheel to consider... Flappy Paddle gear changes - gearbox performance modes and as mentioned before, the near unnoticeable gear changes make theS-tronic box very attractive.
chrisg007 Posted November 21, 2018 Author Posted November 21, 2018 Many thanks for that. How much is a antobox oil change (approx.)?
Envy Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 £225.91 - that was after negotiating a discount with Bristol Audi... fi you are buying new one consideration would be a service pack but you would need to check if Auto Box is included in the package
