rach Posted January 29, 2019 Posted January 29, 2019 hi all bought my a3 saloon black edition tfsi in October 17 brand new (67 plate) have done just over 4500 miles and had warning light come on saying change oil in 28 days phoned my local audi dealer who said yes needs changing and the price for this is £226, is this right its no service just changing the oil and he said a quick check of other things, just seems really high
Steve Q Posted January 29, 2019 Posted January 29, 2019 If it's the first service it should be oil and oil filter plus inspection (minor service). When I worked at Volkswagen a minor service cost £169. You can always take your Audi to a VAT registered garage and as long as they use genuine Audi parts it won't affect the warranty. Cheers Steve

There is also nothing stopping you taking it to a Audi specialist garage this should also be a cheaper option. It is worth noting that should you go down this route not having the proper service stamps from an Audi dealer can impact resale value later on. Hope this helps, all the best! rach Posted January 29, 2019 Author Posted January 29, 2019 sorry all, another question do I need to take my service book or not? im used to previous cars (not audi) where its just serviced once a year and book stamped etc, this oil change is 15 months and then in 8 months a full service is needed so not sure if service book needed, thanks

Local Audi dealer said that a full 2-year service will be due in April anyway, so he suggested they do both now to save me going back in two months, for which they would charge a grand total of £402. Whether that's a good price or not, I've no idea, but I've agreed to it. The price includes collecting and returning the car to my home, which saves me a lot of hassle. 2

I live in the sticks, and all my Audi journeys have been long ones - all over Europe, and a couple of times to Scotland, mostly with the top down. It's not my main car (it's a bit too impractical for everyday use - it's effectively a 2-seater), so it doesn't get involved in shopping trips or ferrying the kids around. It also has the old 1.4 litre engine rather than the newer 1.5 litre that yours has - maybe that makes a difference. There's a thread on here discussing issues with the newer engine that might be of interest... Link 1

It also did/ still does? , depend on whether the car is set to be serviced on a Longlife schedule ( in which case it can go out to c18K miles between services - depending on the type of use) or on an annual-ish schedule. My feeling is that dealers tend to assess the new owner's useage, and 'if they can get away with it' set it for the shorter interval plan - since obviously this is more profitable for the dealership. I have a suspicion that VAG also might also input some service, time-associated logic, when the car is built, and if so, then this might explain why some are showing a need to be serviced after such a short ownership period ( car might have been built some time before being sold). Link thanks, yes that makes sense as mine is used opposite of yours, all low mile trips 2 to 10 miles, probably once every 4 months it goes on a 70 mile run when we go and visit friends, thanks again for your help you have been very helpful, ps I used to have megane cabriolet so I know exactly what you mean about space in the back, waste of time having seats, they should make most cabriolets 2 seaters lol, I hope the nice weather returns for you soon and you can have the roof off again 1
Krissy_UK Posted February 3, 2019 Posted February 3, 2019 Hi Rach, My car is the same age as yours, I had the same needed changing last month Dec-18. Dealer (Northampton) also quoted same price. I asked if I had to use Audi, guy said no, can use another garage so long as they use Audi parts. So saved myself £50 by going to a local garage instead. 1

The problem of "registering" that service may now be more complex than it was, since manufacturers are going away from the old 'Service Book', which could be stamped, and moving to recording that service on the (VAGin this case) system. There may be cause for concern that if this is the case, and you local garage does not have access to this system, then the car will show/appear not to have been serviced. Kind regards, Gareth.
