Bill Owen Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 Hi there, I have a 57 plate le mans avant with 2g high mmi. The problem is that the radio is struggling to find stations and the CD player in the glove box just keeps initializing and never starts playing. Bluetooth and sat nav are both fine. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. P.s. I've tried to reboot all to no avail. Regards
Wood53y Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 Have you checked for damp in the compartment in the boot where the radio receiver, amp and nav disc player is? if One or more components in this area get wet due to the rear wash fluid pipe splitting then the component won’t always emit the infrared signal needed to link all the components and little issues occur. i suspect the radio receiver has got wet and is causing the problem.
Magnet Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 Hello Ian, I have found that where similar components have suffered with damp, it manifests itself as what is called ‘white rust’ on the inner surfaces of the electro-galved cases. Very often, the printed circuit boards are close to these inner surfaces and the white deposits get onto the printed circuit. On a little to lose basis, it could be worthwhile removing the unit, before removing part of the case ( if not sealed), drying it out, and gently brushing away any residue, before cleaning up with some contact cleaner. I have had success with Sat Nav units using this procedure. Kind regards, Gareth.
Wood53y Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 Hi Gareth we call this issue in the electrical industry as tracking as the white dust can hold moisture and becomes a really good transmitter. i agree that cleaning between the contacts will work. Just be careful not to use to much contact cleaner ad this could make things worse.
Bill Owen Posted February 28, 2019 Author Posted February 28, 2019 Hi guys, sorry for the slow response! Just a quick one, if I buy a second hand tuner can I just change it myself or do I have to get someone else to do it? Back compartment was damp btw. Rear seal on the boot being replaced before I change out the old unit. Rear wash wipe pipe is fine (for now!) Thanks again for the replies guys.
Wood53y Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Hi Bill to replace any component in that side of the boot is relatively simple the amp simply unscrews from the top but the receiver has to come out from the back and you will have to unbolt the framework and remove the whole thing being careful to unclip all the wiring before you try to pull it out. its not a hard job but it is a little tricky due to the lack of space to work with. if you buy the exact same part number component it should be a straight swap with no recoding needed to recode one with a different part number you will have to go to a specialist.
Bill Owen Posted March 1, 2019 Author Posted March 1, 2019 Hi guys, that's the tuner replaced like for like and it's all good, no coding needed. Only prob is the CD changer is only lighting up for 2 sec then goes off again. It was playing up before the tuner issue so the saga continues! Seems never-ending at the mo! 🙄
