Brake servo restricted

My part arrived today from Cardiff Audi. 

Following the video instructions I've changed this over and had a quick test drive, no more warning error!
The only difference I had was there was no release of pressure when I removed the old one.

Taken to the dealer on Friday and their diagnostics confirmed the forum's conclusion.  New brake pressure sensor fitted under used car warranty.

When pushed the service advisor grudgingly admitted that they had changed two that week but it seems the party line is, "We don't know what you mean".  This being the case have emailed Audi UK (Thanks to Peter above for details) to voice concerns that all Audi owners should be getting this part checked and replaced by Audi free of charge. Many thanks to all the contributing members for their shared info and advice 👍

Just got the car back after the part was replaced by Halfords. It ended up costing £250 for the part and service and a £50 diagnostics fee, but no error messages showing up and drives like new. Auto protect wouldn't cover the cost 🤬 but just glad to have it fixed.

Just bought a A4 Allroad 2017 and just got the message of Brake Servo: restricted phone the garage and they said not to drive on it bra sue you only get so many  activations until it fails and your car seizes. Anyone know roughly how many that would be ? because I’ve had to use my car in emergencies for work

Hi Nicholas,

I had the same issue stared on the 5th June 2021 and it was fixed on the 9th June 2021.  The car has been driven for approx. 100 miles during this time.  Based on this thread, I would suggest to get it fixed as soon as possible. To get it fixed, you will need to replace the brake servo sensor 5Q 0906207B.  Here is a video I made to how to replace it:

Thank you since I bought the car only 3 weeks ago it’s still covered under Evans used car warranty so it’s booked into an Audi specialist they use. I would do it my self but if it’s getting done for free I’ll have to wait

Do not drive it. I was unaware of how this fault can lead to the abs control unit faulting after a certain number of miles / uses. I now am looking at almost £3k to replace the entire abs control unit and mechanical arm for something which should have only cost about £100.

I’ll be driving it to the garage but that’s it and I’ll probably be coasting it 😂

I had this error come up last week and have been driving it since, waiting for my local garage to order the part. I read this thread and realised I can’t be that short of 20 error messages so panicked, went down to Cardiff Audi myself this morning (in a different car) and have changed it myself. The guy there said they are doing loads of these under warranty at the moment but have a reasonable stock left.

There should be a recall for this, if it had gone when I’m away in it on holiday I’d have been stuffed.

In all it took less than 5 mins, I wouldn’t have attempted to do it myself if it wasn’t for Ambrose’s video - not all heroes wear capes!

I don’t know if it’s worth waiting for my appointment or just doing it my self but my only other problem is I have to obd plug and I want them to figure that out too whilst it’s under warranty and I have looked everywhere for it and behind the panel

I had exactly the same issue as all the rest on this thread.

I have Audi A5 2.0 Diesel 67 plate coupe. I read the forum, rang the dealer and asked how much they said £165 to diagnose , yeah right, so i ordered the part Photos attached, £79.20 collected it within the hour, it take less that 5 minutes yes FIVE minutes to complete the job. All warnings gone, brakes feel correct again. SS showed up so switched off and re-started and that also was gone.

Saved at least £95 from the diag alone.

It is so simple it's embarrassing.

Same here - visited Cardiff Audi and replaced the part on the drive in 5 minutes. One fault cleared but another (potentially) couple found the next day though!

Emissions control light is on and the dealer has just confirmed that a coolant leak is present due to a fault water pump and thermostat. Hopefully both are related, as the only code that came up on the OBD11 reader was P00B7 (Engine coolant flow insufficient). Fingers crossed!

Same issue for me. Ordered the part from Cardiff Audi, arrived next day. Fitted in a few mins and all sorted. Thanks for all the advice in the thread!
 

Bit of a side note, I’d had my front pads and discs and rear pads replaced a couple of weeks ago. Also had unnecessary pre-sense activation where ABS kicked in briefly shortly after that. Wondered whether the restricted servo message was a result of those things, but not seen others in this thread refer to similar so concluded the timing was just coincidence.

Hi new to this forum, sorry if this has been covered before as there are so many posts about this issue,

I had the dreaded stop start and restricted braking, on my Audi A4 ultra 2016 a couple of days ago, it had been standing for a few weeks.

I didn’t drive anywhere, obviously I wanted to get the issue diagnosed.

after reading a few of the earlier post about Abs issues,I’m so glad I didn’t drive it.

So I Plugged her in with Vcds , I got errors pressure brake sensor fault and the abs module implausible error.

so after reading all the earlier post, I needed to get in touch with Audi, so I could get the offending part replaced! with me being out of warranty by a month
I didn’t have much choice but try change the boost sensor 5Q0 906 207.

Audi parts guy said that part has been superseded by 5Q0 906. 207 B

so that was purchased this morning for £79.90, I fitted in probably 5 mins.

all is good so far.

So obviously Audi have realised there is a big issue across the Audi range with the old type part. 
So guys get it changed for the new upgraded parts to save any future issues.

Hi all, 

We’ve just got the same message on our Audi A4 16 plate today. Thanks to this forum we will be calling to order the sensor tomorrow but we’re also due to drive to the Kent coast from Berkshire for our only holiday of the year tomorrow. I presume from all the messages above this is a no go! I really don’t want to damage the car further but kids are going to be gutted! 😥 Does anyone know if Audi Assist would come out and change it on the day? Will update with how we get on 🤞we get to the seaside.

Hi Caccoke,

Unfortunately, it would costs further damage to the ABS unit if you continue to drive.  But don't cancel your holiday yet.  They may sometime have it in stock as it is a common failure item.  If they do, it only takes a few minutes to fix.  Here is how you replace it:

Hi Caccoke. Please do not drive it. I did the unfortunate thing of continuing to drive as the dash message said I could (and I was unaware of this forum) and now have paid just under £3k to replace the abs unit. If they can't replace it then maybe hire a car for your trip? It'll be cheaper than replacing your abs. Hope you get it sorted one way or another. Dev

Hi Caccoke,

I got mine fixed with Audi Assist, as my local dealership couldn't see me.for weeks and didn't hav the part in stock.I phoned them up on a Monday evening and they sent someone round on the Weds.It just depends on availability..Give them a shout. As mentioned above it's an easy fix and if they have availability you'll be on your way to the Kent coast in no time.

Thank you all for your replies, managed to get the part from Guildford Audi so picking it up this morning. We should be on the beach by this evening. Hopefully no damage already done 🤞.
Quick question before regarding fitting do I need to disconnect the battery before hand?

That's great news.

I didn't disconnect the battery to replace the sensor.

Collected sensor and fitted within an hour! The mechanic I spoke to in Audi said that I was doing the exact right thing and I said it was all thanks to this brilliant advice from all of you.
