Hi everyone, I've got a auto gearbox problem and have been told the fault code is P1845, but Audi say it isn't one of there codes. Does anyone know what the code is.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Stephen,

Many thanks for keeping the forum updated on the progress on this - in reality, very few do, so it’s refreshing when this feedback is received.

Glad your issue is now sorted.

I’ve just had a quick Google on this fault code, and there appears to be quite a few references to this VAG code and it’s association with transmission issues, but didn’t check whether it included your valve body. I guess it depends who you originally talked with when you said ‘..Audi said it isn’t one of their codes....’ Dealers are no doubt wary of giving out such information based on the likelihood of come-back if it turns out that particular component proves to be not at fault.

Possibly a cynical viewpoint, but owners can put all their faith in such fault codes and their relationship to the particular component being at fault. To me, these have to be taken with an element of ‘cause and affect’ where a component may be signalled up as being the problem, but it’s another faulty component which is feeding it a faulty signal.

Anyway, you problem is sorted and the forum is a wiser place due to your feedback.

Many thanks again and kind regards,

Gareth.

Well if it wasn't an Audi code, where did it come from?

Let me give you the full story lol.

1st off it wasn't my TT it was my daughters A3 04 plate, with only just under 50,000 on the clock.  Trouble started in the auto box changing from 2nd to 3rd,it was jumping about and wouldn't change up. A friend of mine put the car on his VAG com and came up with the fault code P1845, this showed up as high pressure solenoid for 2nd and 3rd gear. So I took it to Audi for confirmation and they told me the car wasn't showing any faults, but after test driving it they said I need a new gearbox (£7000) and charged me £60 for diagnostics (could have done without that). When I told them I had it on a Vag com and it gave the fault code P1845, they said It's not 1 of there codes and they don't use Vag com, they use another diagnostics machine. Any way I took the car to a gearbox repair place in Chelmsford Essex called A&M Gearbox services ltd and they diagnosed it as the valve body faulty. They replaced the valve body and the car runs like a new car now. It cost me £1100 including fluids for the repair which i thought was well worth it considering Audi wanted to put a new box in for £7000 (thieving f*****s).

Atb, Steve.

Thanks Steve. That confirms my view of Audi incompetence when it comes to diagnoses of car faults. Glad you got it sorted.

Thanks Cliff, I find there OK when they do the yearly service for me, but there crap at diagnostics (or they don't want to tell you ) and they don't want to repair anything, they want to change it, like the gearbox.

Thanks Steve,

I think it would difficult to justify judging the service received at one Audi dealer, to be representative of the service which will be received at them all. As with all other ‘national’ concerns, and trades, the confidence, or lack of it, and experience at one branch quite likely to vary at another.

I thought I had posted a reply re. main dealer vs. using automatic gearbox specialists, but it seems to have disappeared! Anyway, in effect, I would always recommend seeking advice on auto. box issue from trusted specialists - main dealers will simply recommend renewing the whole box.

Kind regards,

Gareth.
