Aliens Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 Hi, I am / was the proud owner of a 2017 380BHP A8L rocket ship until recently when my car went to Audi for an MOT. In their infinite wisdom Audi decided to implement a remap of the engine in response to the emissions scandal from a couple of years ago. ( Incidentally I did not ask for this work to be done ! ) Within 10 seconds of collecting the car it was obvious to me that something very, very bad had been done to the engine . It sounded and ran fine, but drove like a 1.3 fiesta ( sorry Ford, great car but not an A8) . It was completely not my car. On rejecting the car back to the service centre , having driven a further 5 miles, they admitted carrying out the remap, but said it should be indiscernible to the original . I pointed out that I had noticed the change within 10 seconds, without knowledge the change had been made. I am currently having an argument with Audi, to get this reversed. For whatever reason Audi seem to be struggling with this ? Does anyone know why that would be so difficult ? If any members know of a specialist in or around London who can put the original settings back into the car along with the NoX sensor which Audi also changed, I would be very grateful. Thanks for your help
Aliens Posted September 4, 2020 Author Posted September 4, 2020 Hi All, Does anyone have the official performance stats for the 2014-2017 A8 D4 4.2tdi model . eg the 0-60 , 30-70 acceleration times claimed, so I can compare against my dyno runs . If you do I would be very grateful ( preferably the L model , but the standard is also helpful
Steve Q Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Audi should not have do e this without your permission, fact. They have to have a signed form to say you agree to it, and it gets logged on a database. Did you sign anything when you dropped the car off? They say they cannot reverse it because I don't believe they are allowed to. The only cure is a independent remap if Audi won't do anything.
Cm666 Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 Just before lockdown in March my 4.2 tdi needed the DPF cleaned and due to an issue with ECU updates, I had to book it into Audi. When checking it in I was asked if it had been re-mapped and I replied “no idea” as I had only had it 6 months. But everyone needs to sign a disclaimer form. It took 2 days to sort out as the updates proved troublesome and collected it on day1 of lockdown. Nothing appeared different drive wise and just carried on regardless. Fast forward 4 months and I did take it for a re-map. When they placed it on the rolling road and plugged it in they came back with a surprise - 424 bhp. Considering it was previously a funeral car and considering it had been through Audi, we were a bit confused as to this figure and with Audi still shut it was difficult to check. The re-map folk’s did mention that they have come across stock Audi’s with higher than normal bhp figures. I know I have come across “Press Cars” with BMW’s and these do appear to be just that little bit faster which was backed up by the dealers.
