Hi all,

Iam a newbie to this site, Ian looking for advice regarding my Audi A7 2015 plate with 54000 miles, I noticed a rattling from the engine now and again so I booked it into a audi specialist who came back with the following faults.

Will require bank 1 exhaust cam shaft, timing chains and tensioner. Evidence of coolent loss from front engine casing - will require stripping of manifold and EGR to replace water housing and valve.

Cost is between £4000 to £5000.

Had car just over 6 months and done 2000 miles which it has sat most of the 3 month due to covid-19. My RAC warranty has ran out the time this fault was found. Is this been a issue with anyone else regarding this model and year. Iam gutted that this has happened and hoping to get some answers.

Thanks

Paul

Hello Paul,

Not sure how much of this is going to help.

Sorry to hear of your issues, and that the Lockdown has resulted in the car being out of warranty. Having said that, it’s always worth trying to raise a claim, particularly since you infer that the fault was known about within the warranty period, but Lovkdown has prevented its investigation.

If you bought it from a dealer then I think you will find that the dealer is responsible for faults discovered within the first 6 months. If it were me, I would be taking some advice on what is reasonable to complain about to whom.

Re. the issues and the repair costs - the independent? should come up with a reasonable quote, but if this were mine, I would be seeking a second opinion and repair costings from a trusted local diesel specialist - often better bets than marque specialist, for diesels.

You ask a reasonable question regarding whether any other owners have had similar issues, since this may (just may) have some bearing on the potential for a claim on Audi, if this 5 year old car has complete main dealer service history.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

Hi, I have exactly the same issue, and it seems to be cam chain tensioner. I bought my car from Germany from authorized AUDI Dealer, then car has been brought to Slovakia and immediately after one week the strange sound started from engine. Here is the video. It seems to be bad chain tensioner or time chain. I will get check next week, nevertheless I hope it will be possible to push AUDI dealer to repay it ad this is hidden issue of the car. My car is 68k km only, 3.0 TDI
