Minor Damage

Hi all, hope everyone is well.

Think I might be cursed with Audi cars.  My recent A3 Sportback that was purchased as an Audi Approved Used car has now had its first minor damage, to the front bumper.  Least I made it over 2-months.

Just came off a slip road and in to lane 1, I was waiting for slow vehicles in the middle lane to pass and when clear, I moved across and saw a Jaguar XKR (or XK8) ride over something in the road but their tyre picked up the debris and it flung from the rear of the Jaguar in to my car.  At the time, the noise was bad and knew it hit me but thought it went underneath and damaged the under tray, but upon an inspection a bit later at work, found the scrapes on my bumper and with this shade of grey, it is noticeable.  There is damage underneath the bumper too.

Captured this on my dashcam and even managed a screen grab of the item - a thin metal clasp loop.  Looking back though, if I was further back it might have gone on the bonnet or even shattered the windscreen.

With zero bodywork repair knowledge, I will have to take this to someone to repair but I hope the quotes are not too sickening.

Sorry to hear of your incident. I guess that with your dash cam evidence you could (in caps) attempt to claim off the insurers of J888 CJJ, via. your own insurers. If it were me, I wouldn’t since even if this proves to be possible, your premium is likely to increase even though it’s a no-fault accident on your part. 

Anyway, this looks well within the scope of a local franchised ‘scratch repair/dent removal’ specialist. The issue here is to ensure you choose a good one. Recommendations, and don’t-bother- with-them, advice can often be obtained via. friendly local low volume car sales sites, where they need to be aware of who does minor bodywork repairs to a good standard at a reasonable price.

Thank-you for your assistance.  Insurance is always at the back of my mind but overall will be more af an expensive repair because of the claim and as you say, my premium would go up.  The metal debris was already in the road (I assume) and was awaiting to be impacted and was more unfortunate on my part.  I do not blame the Jaguar driver but if I changed in to the middle lane a few seconds later than I did, it would have been avoided.  My dashcam picks up the impact but I can be heard saying a few choice words about other drivers and even worse following the impact so a claim could be borderline.

I will look in to getting quotes but will focus on this more over the next week.  Not even sure where I would begin to estimate repair costs but I only hope they can sand down that small area and blend the new pain/lacquer with the original paint but definitely not something I would venture myself.

‘...Not even sure where I would begin to estimate repair costs....’. Just don’t think about it, estimates are what you obtain and not really what you guess. 

OK photos can be inconclusive, but it looks well within the bounds of a ‘smart’ localised repair to me.  I would be just concentrating my mind on finding the best reputation ‘smart’ repairers to gain estimates from.

Ugh I think I have the same luck with cars as you do mate. I've had to have entire replacements done in the last two years, seriously considering just getting a bicycle at this stage.

If you want, check out these guys for Audi windscreen replacements. I've chosen to use them over places like Auto glass and haven't gone back since honestly. Smaller company, but more efficient, professional and with fairer rates.
