tommyd Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Good Afternoon Everyobdy, I am looking at purchasing a Left Hand Drive Audi A6 Avant SE 2.0L Diesel 2012 that has been freshly imported from Holland. I would like to know if I have to change the headlights for driving in the UK? I have spoken to 3 MOT places and they have said that the lights either need changing (expensive) or I need to buy reflectors (seems like a temporary solution). The dealership has said that on the Certificate of Conformity that the lights are good for EU and UK but I have seen the COC yet. I have tried to do some research on the internet but I can't really find a straight answer. Attached is a picture of the headlight (sorry I don't know lots about cars). There seems to be some discussion over Xenon and LED headlights, the fact that they don't actually point either left or right so can be used both in the UK and in Europe, something about them being flat beam - is this the case? Thanks, Tom
Magnet Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 Hello Tom, I really don’t know the answer to your question - sorry - but I were in your situation, I too would want to have the correct answer before committing to buy. Unseen Certificate of Conformity? Well maybe ( in caps) the answer does lie there, but... Have you tried an e-mail to Audi Customer Services, giving them the VIN and asking the straight question? I would anticipate the answer lies there. Fall back - present the car for MOT and see what happens? Of course the pass/fail is going to be on the judgement of the tester. Just wondered if you have a particular reason for wanting a LHD car for use in the UK? Kind regards, Gareth.
Steve Q Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 I'd be speaking to Audi first as Gareth suggests. If you have to change the headlights I'd be looking at a second hand set from eBay or similar. You could also ask Audi to see if they can be adjusted to work in the uk.
