AdamA72020 Posted September 16, 2020 Posted September 16, 2020 Hey I have an A7 black edition 2013 and I need 4 new tyres, currently I'm on 275 30 21 can I change the profile and width on these without messing up the AWD system? It's a bit bumpy currently and would like to smooth that out as well as find cheaper tyres as currently the cheapest are Dunlop's at 250 a corner 馃槷馃槷馃槷 help!
Magnet Posted September 16, 2020 Posted September 16, 2020 Hello Adam, My first port of call would to establish what diameter wheels were standard on your model. 21 inch seem extremely large, but I鈥檓 not familiar with what was standard fitment.聽 If indeed they are oversize then you will find that fitting smaller wheels should聽allow you to fit tyres of a deeper profile. Kind regards, Gareth.聽
AdamA72020 Posted September 17, 2020 Author Posted September 17, 2020 Hey Gareth, the 21s are standard, they come with the black edition model. Thank you so much for replying, I just want to see if I can put tyres on these wheels with more side wall for comfort and lower cost ?聽
Magnet Posted September 17, 2020 Posted September 17, 2020 Hello Adam, Many thanks for coming back on this. Blinking heck as we would say here -21 inch.聽聽Despite the tyres being fairly wide, 30 profile is not leaving you very much of a sidewall, and I can understand the adverse effect on ride quality.聽 In theory, to retain the 30 profile and achieve a deeper sidewall then you will need to increase the width of the tyre, but I鈥檓 sure you will appreciate that that could cause issues even if the rims would accommodate wider tyres. If if this would be possible, you will still be increasing the outside dia. of the combined wheel + tyre with likely consequences of inaccurate speedo readings and effects on gearing.聽 I can appreciate the desire to save money on alternative tyre sizes for these rims, but being pessimistic, this non standard arrangement is likely to impact on your insurance.聽 I guess an alternative would be to fit smaller dia. wheels, to be able to achieve a higher profile, but even then you will be left with the sports type suspension.聽 Sorry I couldn鈥檛聽be any more helpful and positive, but perhaps someone else will come along and offer their experiences. Kind regards, Gareth.
AdamA72020 Posted September 17, 2020 Author Posted September 17, 2020 Thanks Gareth, much appreciated and thank you for your time 馃槉 all received and understood 馃槉
robster Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 kinda in the middle of some changes im running oe 21"rotors with 275/35/21 on standard sline suspention never had any rubbing, tyres have been great soaking up some rough roads and some pot holes but it sits a bit high and just not happy with the look. looks a bit tractor like and i plan to get wheels refurbed to an original diamond cut with titanium colour and get original tyre size聽 its oe rotors but not diamond cut and have plastidipped them nearly a year ago just to protect the slight kerbing from turning into corrosion and making wheels worse, hopefully they will take a diamond cut. 聽 tyres at this size just are not wearing down so no mad rush to just change them for the sake of it and will probably get it done next year in time for summer 聽 il try post a few pictures
JimmyC Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 You need to stick to something with the same overall parameters.聽 So to have a higher sidewall, you'll need to reduce the wheel size down from 21". This website shows the options:聽https://www.wheel-size.com/size/audi/a7/2013/ In summary, the options are: 255/45ZR18聽99Y 8.5Jx18 ET32 5x112 2.4 / 2.1 聽 聽 235/55R17聽99H 7Jx17 ET25 5x112 2.4 / 2.1 聽 聽 235/55ZR17聽99Y 8Jx17 ET30 5x112 2.4 / 2.1 聽 聽 235/45R19聽99V 8Jx19 ET26 5x112 2.4 / 2.2 聽 聽 255/40ZR19聽100Y 8.5Jx19 ET32 5x112 2.4 / 2.2 聽 聽 255/40ZR19聽100Y 9Jx19 ET32 5x112 2.4 / 2.2 聽 聽 265/35ZR20聽99Y 9Jx20 ET37 5x112 2.4 / 2.2 聽 聽 275/30ZR21聽98Y 9Jx21 ET35 5x112 2.6 / 2.3 聽 My only query would be whether a smaller radius will fit over the brakes, but from your picture the brakes look normal sized so you should be able to drop all the way to the R17 1
