I have just had my wing mirror replaced (wiring involved) got my car back only to realise none of my gauges are working, the display Unit above my steering wheel is blank other than the following warning lights EPC, ABS the airbags a picture of a steering wheel and an ! In a circle and brackets. Is there anything I can do? Single mum so no man to help. It’s already cost me £540 for the wing Mirror so can’t afford to be paying an arm and leg if it’s something I could fix myself. Thank  you in advance

Hello Leanne,

If everything was as it should be before someone replaced the wing mirror, then you must return to that person so that they can rectify the issue. Personally, I would not be attempting any DIY or getting anyone else to work on it before you return it, otherwise it could be said that you have induced the faults.

As Gareth said, take it back to the man that caused the problem, assuming of course that the instruments were functioning properly beforehand. It may be simply a plug that has not been reconnected or it could be more serious.

I would echo the comments above... straight back to the person who carried out that expensive mirror repair.

Just to add though... with recent experience of electrics/electronics on my daughter's A3 there is no point in even speculating on what might be wrong without getting a code reader on the car to see what it reports.

Hopefully it will be something as simple as a blown fuse to replace and codes to clear but the electrical systems on these cars are complex and it could be more serious.

I’m having exactly the same problem but not induced by recent work.

Dash gauges working fine yesterday but experiencing the same issue as Leanne today. I had the same issue about a year ago, but half way through the journey on the way to a dealer (15 minute driving), the gauges kicked back into action again so I didn’t follow through as the issue didn’t reoccur... until today.

Could this be related to a loose connection? Or potentially a battery issue? I saw a YouTube video of the dash cluster being removed and refitted and didn’t look too challenging so I’m tempted to try.

 

Appreciate any insight!

Hello Chris,

Thanks for being in touch. All relatively recent vehicles are highly dependent on battery condition, and unlike older generation cars, you cannot judge the effect of its condition by waiting for starting difficulties. 

If this were mine, the last job I would be involving myself in at this stage would be removing the dashboard cluster, and my first port of call would be eliminating the battery efficiency as a likely culprit. 

The likes of Halfords check/used to check this, and of course, if found to be faulty, can supply you a new one. Personally, I buy on line from specialist battery suppliers and only buy Varta/Bosch with a minimum of a 4 year warranty. 

Obviously, if the battery tests fine, then it’s off to stage 2 of thinking process.
