R1gger Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 Happy New Year to you all. I have a problem in that my serpentine belt has shredded. I was fortunate enough that it failed while i was outside my house waiting for someone so no major drama. However, i am now unsure whether it is saft to try to 'limp' round to my local garage (about 1/2 a mile) or if it is safer to call them out to tow me round. I would appreciate any advice provided R1gger
audia4b5kev Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 dont do it over heat and then there that cost
R1gger Posted January 6, 2021 Author Posted January 6, 2021 Many thanks for the advice. When i get the garage to replace the serpentine belt should they also change the timing belt? R1gger
Magnet Posted January 6, 2021 Posted January 6, 2021 Not sure if yours is chain or belt driven. Chain? If belt, and it hasn’t been done already then most certainly get it done. If you are getting it done, I would only use genuine VAG parts, or as a second option, Gates kits, but I would only use a VAG water pump, and not be talked into ‘ we only fit O.E. parts’. Kind regards, Gareth.
R1gger Posted January 7, 2021 Author Posted January 7, 2021 Thanks again guys, how can i find out if i have a chain or a belt? R1gger
