As per title - when on full lock, forward or reverse, there's a knocking from the hubs.

I can't believe it's the CV joints, it's only done a careful 35000 miles.  It's an S4 if that makes a difference.

Any thoughts ?

Gareth,

I'll have to check that and get back to you.

Thanks for the reply 🙂

Hi,

It appears that it does do it both left & right; however, I've discovered today that it only seems to make a noise when it's cold.

Ian.

Hello Ian,

Left and right, but only when cold is confusing. Normally such knock on lock issues are restricted to one side, or one side worse than the other, and is generally attributable to drive shaft issues. Your problem doesn’t sound like that, and I’m sure you will appreciate that trying to diagnose any such noise issue with out examining the vehicle is going to be difficult/impossible.

Apologies, but I would suggest you get this carefully investigated at a trusted local garage as soon as possible, since the car is trying to tell you something. Steering and noises is not a good recipe!

Perhaps you would be kind enough to let us know how you get on.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

Thanks for the advice Gareth.

I'll have to get it booked in, and I'll let you know the outcome once it's sorted.

Regards,

Ian.

Could or hot. Check a oil level first. And then you done last service. I know same service change just oil but not filter.

Thanks Uldis, but sorry, I don’t understand.

Well. this is a bit odd.

I thought I'll go out whilst the car is stone cold and test it thoroughly.

Full lock going forward, then in reverse; turning left, then right; all tried when both cold & hot. And then again at differing speeds.

Not a sound !

No noise whatsoever.

So I'm just going to leave it in abeyance for the time being, but keeping a wary ear out all the same.

I'll post back here if anything happens.

Regards,

Ian.

This 'knock' has come back now so I'm booking it in to my local garage at the suggestion of the warranty company.

We'll see what transpires.

Happened to my S5 when I first got it.

The tyres were 2nd hand and knackered.

Swapped them for new...problem went away

Interesting !

I never considered tyres as an issue.

It's worth a thought !  Thanks.
