Sean_9han2 Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Every morning the car drives off but when you rev it, it won't go just crawls and the more you rev it will increase upto 60km/hr or so and also you can change gear with the paddle but it don't doesn't engage the clutch fully and go. I've taken it to Audi Garage but no faults show up. Any ideas of what could be causing this ? Tried changing the gearbox oil, double checking its full up. Very frustrating and for the rest of the day it will drive fine each time you start it.
ThomasG Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 I thought it may have been some limp mode kicking in. Are there no error codes at all?
Sean_9han2 Posted April 15, 2021 Author Posted April 15, 2021 @ThomasG No error codes at all. Thinking of taking it back into the Audi main dealer and let them try to find the fault again. After about a mile of driving at like 30km/hr or so depending on how much you rev it, it will increase speed a bit (gear change shows on the dash) but just won't accelerate as it feels like the clutch slipping but then after a mile like this it just engages and drives fine for the rest of the day.
beemerboy9 Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 See if the garage can find any technical services bulletins and also get them to call Audi Germany to see if this a new problem. There are two types of 8-speed Tiptronic gearbox. The first type is the Multitronic found on many 2.0 litre cars and a few 3 litres. The second type only comes with an engine called a BiTDi. Which one have you got?
56Doc Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 Hi Sean, My v8 Allroad with the tiptronic box used to do this but in cold weather only. But, there is no clutch in a Tiptronic box, it uses a hydraulic ‘torque converter’, (also known as a slush box’) if it’s not providing drive then it’s possible the box needs to be refurbished, seals etc can degrade over time, there was also a filter in some of the early Tiptronic boxes that should have been changed along with the oil every 40k miles. (Not specified in Audi documents but every gearbox specialist recommends it. Lack of oil changes eventually damages the box. You didn’t say how many miles you’ve got on the car or if it was new or second hand when you bought it. If 2nd hand and the previous owners didn’t do the oil changes, that could explain things. It’s worth looking up online for an auto gearbox specialist, they’ll probably be more help than Audi (unless it’s under warranty. The Multitronic (multitragic as a lot of Audi techs say! Sums it up really) gearbox is entirely different to the Tiptronic box in that it’s a ‘CVT’, (Continuous Variable Transmission), using some sort of belt drive and opposing cones, one the driver (input) the other the driven (output) (similar to the Toyota/Lexus CVT’s) it’s just the software in the Audis that mimics the steps of conventional gearboxes. The DSG gearboxes use 2 electronically controlled clutches in an otherwise conventional gearbox. (Also known as a ‘clutch less manual’ as they have no clutch pedal and as far as the driver is concerned, is just an auto box. Hope you get it sorted. Dave
beemerboy9 Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 (edited) Here is the definition of Tiptronic. "Tiptronic is the name given to Audi's manual shifting mode available on their regular automatic gearboxes." The Multitronic, DSG and modern Torque converter gearboxes all have this manual shifting function. So the build sheet of my departed 2011 A5 DSG shows code OG7 (Tiptronic) AND G1D (7-speed automatic transmission for four wheel drive vehicle). Edited March 5, 2022 by beemerboy9
