The targets were diesel-engine vehicles across the Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche brands. In addition to widespread punishments and billions of dollars spent in fines and settlements, a long-lasting ramification of Dieselgate was the Volkswagen Group's acceleration of the pursuit of alternative-fuel vehicles.
