Audi A3 8L making weird sounds when I lose traction?

My -00 A3 makes kind of a grinding noise from somewhere in the front of the car only when I lose traction on slippery roads. I brought it to a shop and they said they couldn't find anything, and that it's just my traction control making the noise (which my car doesn't even have). Any ideas?

Could it be the diff or driveshafts?
