Confused
Hi all I'm new here and looking for a bit of advise. My A4 exhaust tips are white and my engine management light is on. Now it's been in to an Audi "specialists" for a diagnostic as all i could pull from the car was a generic code so thought they could find something more specific. But alas came back with the same code but pointed out my tips where white and that points to a faulty egr cooler. Told me i will be burning coolant. Right so my question is this, my coolant hasn't moved went on a trip yesterday 3 hour drive either way and nothing except very white exhaust tips, so would you say my cooler is shot, or could it be the maf sensor gone and the car burning more fuel and in turn more adblue. I'm at a real loss the "specialist" what £250 just to inspect the cooler and then i got to buy the part (Audi only)£450. So any advise is welcome right now. Thanks Simon
Steve Q
A failing maf should through up a fault code, plus it would usually cause the engine to run rough as in most cases a car will base the situation bas a worse case scenario with a failing maf. Get cooler failure is common on modern vag cars unfortunately.
Confused
Thanks was just hoping really. But why am i not losing coolant? How difficult is an egr cooler change?
Steve Q
This link might help. I've assumed you've got the 2.0tdi. If you do get it off it might be worth you cleaning it to see if that improves it. Wouldn't be a long term solution though.
Confused
Yeah I do have the 2.0tdi, I take it that this is a common issue with these cars? Thanks for the link, I'll definitely give it a look
