Key fob Misbehaving

Can anyone help me, I can lock my car remotely and unlock the boot but my key won't unlock the whole car. It's the original key and it worked fine when I left work. Unfortunately although I have a spare key it isn't coded to the car so can only lock/unlock physically otherwise the cars alarm goes nutty. Is maybe the battery dying in the fob?

It's probably the fob battery, they don't last for ever, and at less than a pound for a new one it should be treated as a cheap way of testing the fob.
