David Reid Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 Does anyone know of a ‘repairer’ of soft-tops…..I have an Audi A3 Cabriolet (2010) and the mohair top is coming away from the back window . I am told that the only way forward is to replace the top (for £5000?). Any advice welcomed.
David Reid Posted September 22, 2021 Author Posted September 22, 2021 Thanks Kev......professionals that I have approached say that it's impossible to re-fix ......have you any tips?
Stevey Y Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 Hi use black Tiger Seal very carefully in small quantities tape off the surrounding area with masking tape and smooth it off with a teaspoon dipped in white spirit, the Tiger Seal grips like there is no tomorrow and fills the gaps where it has come away and remains very flexible after curing. Magnet Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 Hello David, Certainly as Steve says in my experience. One tip which may be useful, is to mask very carefully, but remove the masking tape immediately you have done a reasonably small section. Don’t leave the masking tape any longer than you have to once you have a nice smooth and even surface, otherwise removing the tape tends to lift the edges of the Tiger Seal. Kind regards, Gareth.
David Reid Posted September 22, 2021 Author Posted September 22, 2021 Many thanks , Steve and Gareth.......will follow your advice and let you know how I get on.....there must be lots of other Cabriolet owners in the same position.
