You still have to have an audi connect licence. 

Mine expired last month and my sim shows as being connected but all audi connect functions including Google maps are not enabled.

Thanks for ur reply why Audi is charging a considerable sum for renewal is reprehensible after 3 years they just do not care but I have the solution when I change my car it will not be for another Audi
