Lewis34 Posted December 2, 2021 Posted December 2, 2021 聽Hi Folks, New Audi owner here...Black edition A6 Avant C7. Over the moon bar one or 2 issues...one being related to maps! Please help? I've scoured the internet for information and have some but i am a typical over thinker and as such, require confirmation and help on things before jumping in two-footed 馃槓 My physical location is well far off my GPS location. I am in Birmingham for example (UK) and the GPS thinks i am in Scotland. After reading around, i understand there is a water ingress issue with the shark fin arials on the C7's potentially..I want to ensure it's not just software before going down faulty hardware route - i need to establish this ASAP so that if it is hardware, i can take back to the dealer (which is a considerable distance from me, so i'd like to be sure). My question - How do i update maps myself? Local audi dealer has been useless... I can't even get in to talk to them. I have requested an audi connect code (another issue i've got as cannpot get connect services to work correctly) from them as i don't have the original one and it's hurdle after hurdle. Map updates too seem extortinate and would rather self-install in case that isn't the problem at all... My current MMI version is: MHI2_ER_AU57x_S2519_1聽 聽..... I BELIEVE i need to update to MHI2_ER_AU57x_K3663 ....... I have found a few places online to download the files but i don't particularly trust them and want to be sure i get the correct version (i have read it differs depending on sound system and subtle changes to software code may need changing - I have Bose sound and if i'm reading in the correct places this means the update software is slightly different - can anyone confirm?)....So sorry for dragging this out, i guess my question is can anyone please advise on a suitable location to obtain the correct update files (other than audi) so i can investigate software vs hardware fault? Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this and Hi, i'm Lewis 馃檪聽I like to get involved in online communities and having purchased an Audi very recently, i hope i can be part of this one and gain useful info as well as contribute what i know and discover along the way should it become relevant. Tinker by trade and love playing about with things (no dirty jokes please).聽 BR, Lewis
Steve Q Posted December 2, 2021 Posted December 2, 2021 Welcome to the forum, you'll find the members on here are a friendly and helpful bunch 鈽猴笍聽 Sorry to hear of your issues, the sat nav one is definitely common and is as you say linked to the antenna.聽 Regarding software updates I'd advise you get Audi to do this for your peace of mind.聽 1
Lewis34 Posted December 3, 2021 Author Posted December 3, 2021 Thanks for the welcome Steve! I hope so; i think these types of communities can be invaluable! I'm planning on visiting a local garage today if i can get off work early enough. Plan is to plug the motor in and run diagnostics - hoping that wil tell me if the sat nav has a physical hardware error (i WILL buy a VCDS at some point). I tried Audi again this morning (Tamworth branch) and was again surprised how difficult it was to get in...they don't seem interested at all 馃槓聽I am not waiting for them (they said they would contact me to let me know when they could give me the pleasure of allowing them to take my pants down), so will try the local route.聽 I will update this thread as an when i getto the bottom of this all聽馃
ThomasG Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 I would get your fin replaced asap. It ended up being the cause of the ACC constant error I got. Renewed it and it went. As for software updates - I may or may not have done mine (cough) from an online source. Yes, I crapped myself about bricking a car, but it worked, and going over the new Forth Road Bridge doesn't show me in the middle of the Forth. It take a bit of time, but if you follow the instructions to the letter you should be fine. You obviously do this at your own risk. Sadly, the loss of the Google Earth connection means I just use my phone for all navigation now. Plus Google maps is much more intuitive. But get the fin sorted. You may still be under warranty for that if you bought it off a dealer. I was.
Lewis34 Posted December 3, 2021 Author Posted December 3, 2021 Thanks Thomas - I took your advice. The tinker in me wants to pull the headliner off and take a look myself but that's the logic of someone who hasn;t purhased a car of this value before...took me a while to remmeber actually, i paid a fair bit for the motor and the dealer should sort it. Just drove up and they were good as gold.聽 They are booking me into Audi themselves so the GPS signal can be diagnosed and remedied. Best result all round really. It won't be for a while as i need the car until i break up from work later in December. Once Audi have had their way with her, i'll update this thread on the results in case it's of any use to others later on down the line. Thanks again for the help folks
Lewis34 Posted December 21, 2021 Author Posted December 21, 2021 To those who may read this merry Christmas in advance. Update as promised: it was as expected. Water ingress to the shark fin area causing the issue. The dealers garage had my car in for brake change so they investigated themselves and found the water ingress issue. I鈥檇 pointed them in that direction that is to the great information found on this and other forums so thanks to everyone who鈥檚 experienced this issue and posted about the results in the past. I鈥檓 on the way to pick up my car. They鈥檝e ordered the part and I鈥檒l take it back in for a day to install when I get a chance.聽 2
Steve Q Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 So glad you got sorted abd glad we could help 馃檪
Lewis34 Posted December 22, 2021 Author Posted December 22, 2021 Thanks Steve! I鈥檒l update again when the GPS is actually fixed just in case anything else comes up. I鈥檓 glad the dealer confirmed the water ingress as the actual fault but I鈥檒l update when done in case any other gremlins are encountered!聽
Lewis34 Posted March 3, 2022 Author Posted March 3, 2022 Morning (if we're in the same time zone)... So the GPS is finally fixed! There was a big delay as i have bene travelling a lot with work and had a few personal bits on...the garage got an OEM ariel, i booked in and the whole process took just less than an hour. My GPS no longer believes i'm in teh Irish sea somewhere whilst i actually navigate the roads of Brum. All is now working 馃檪聽Thanks once again for the support everyone, couldn't have done it without the community聽馃挭聽Next step...figuring out how to port google maps onto the screen I'm not feeling the audi maps!
