Have a 2008 b8 a4 tdi 140

Was driving the otherday n seemed lik went into limp mode cldnt get above 45 mph pulled in at a shop as soon as noticed it someone said it was smoking white so i thought injectors or turbo , wen i came out of shop to start it it just wouldnt start and a battery light came up saying it would charge when driving. Had to get it towed, plugged it in wen got home n turbo underboost n starter malfunction came up few othercodes unrelated, car sat up for a week n went to start it n just clicked i put jump pack on it n it seemed to crank once then just clicks. Starter code came up but wondering is that cuz battery died n wasnt coded out

Hello Raynor,

Thanks for being in touch.
The first thing you need to do is to charge the battery for at least over night - ideally 24 hours. You then need to get the battery efficiency checked - Halfords (amongst others) can do that.
Kind regards,

Gareth.

If my battery does come back as good what would explain clicking

Hi it won't come back as good, the clicking is the solenoid on the starter trying to engage the starter dog gear without sufficient power, other than that the starter unit could be extinct, or even the alternator, the battery is a good place to start.

Just to get the logic in gear Raynor:-

Repeating - you first have to get the battery efficiency checked, then let us know how you get on with that.
Again as said, charge the battery for at least overnight before you get it tested.

Only worry about one stage at a time!
Kind regards,

Gareth.
