Darryl
Hi, looking at some Audi A4's it describes them as OPT STOP START. I'm aware of what stop start facility is but what does the word OPT mean in this instance. Thanks

Darryl
Thanks for the crossword clue. Does OPT stand for option or are you actually as baffled as me but needed to reply?. Why would any Manufacturer use OPT on a cars official model title to indicate that something as inconsequential as Stop Start is an option? Now if it had said Indicators I would have understood. Steve Q
I actually haven't heard the term before either. I can only assume it means optional? Why someone would spec start stop though is beyond me

Why someone would spec start stop though is beyond me Thanks Steve and I totally agree in all respects but there are plenty advertised with that very phrase phrase in the Initial vehicle description which is why I'm curious.. For example, ( See Below )this is a straight lift from an HPi check on a car that I like and it's almost like it's a specific model? Why would they be advertised with an option in the title or more to the point listed on an HPi report like that. Very strange but it looks like most other people aren't sure as well. I can honestly say that I detest Start stop so if it;s fitted it will be getting knocked off each time. Thanks for the replies so far though anyway .👍 Vehicle Details ManufacturerAudi ModelA4 Avant Se Tdi Model Detail Tdi 120 Opt Start/Stop ColourGrey Vehicle TypeCar Body StyleEstate Fuel TypeDiesel Engine Size1968 cc Euro Status4 ULEZ CompliantCheck ULEZ status BHP118 BHP
Steve Q
The only thing I can think is start stop reduces the vehicle tax.
Darryl
I wouldn't be at all surprised if you are correct Steve. 👍
geoffrey
the idea behind the automatic start stop as i remember was to help prevent unnecessary pollution and reduce fuel consumption whilst stuck in traffic queues? as to other 'savings' it is highly contentious as to whether the production/maintenance costs balanced these savings out. the fact it never caught on may well answer those questions. reduction of road tax ? i will fit two . only joking Steve

Broken.
This sounds like the button next to gear lever, allowing you to turn off the stop/ start option.
Darryl
No, afraid not. I now know that It simply means optional on that model year. This car fortunately does not have it fitted at all. Why on earth Audi chose to label the car this way makes no sense. 👍
