Damask_Rose Posted February 19, 2022 Posted February 19, 2022 Recently purchased an A4 B9 1.4TFSI Sport - a 2017 plate with approx 28k miles. Very happy with the car, but have noticed that when stationary and giving it revs, there is movement under my feet. It's not terrible, but noticeable. I popped the hood and watched the engine for movement and the engine moves a little at the front centre. Not sure if this is connected, but can feel mild vibration in the gear stick.聽I thought it can be an engine mount but there is no accompanying noise. Anyone got any ideas? Is some movement in the engine normal? I would be grateful for any help.聽 聽 聽
Steve Q Posted February 20, 2022 Posted February 20, 2022 As you say could be an engine or gearbox mount. Had something similar on my wife's jag last month. It needed two engine mounts. As in your case you could see the engine move.聽 1

Hi, no they will only make a noise when they have spat out all the oil and shredded the bonded rubber mount, my only clue was the rocking of the engine when revved and as mine is manual the worn gearbox mounting made it hard to engage first and second the other sign was the gearstick was moving excessively when accelerating or decelerating so I just changed all three as they wear as a set fortunately the gearbox mount is solid rubber and not that hard to change but the engine mounts are, one had started to lose oil and both sides the rubber was creased and beginning to split. Damask_Rose Posted February 20, 2022 Author Posted February 20, 2022 (edited) Thanks both. Looks like you need to get underneath the car and remove the undertray to see the mounts, so I will take it to the dealer I bought it from. I got a one year warranty and mounts are not on the list of exclusions, but some dealers do try to wriggle out of these things.聽 Will update once I have a solution so that others can benefit. Will also try to video the engine movement.聽 EDIT: I know a good independent garage, can they claim on the warranty on my behalf, or must it be an official Audi dealer? 聽 聽 Edited February 20, 2022 by Damask_Rose

Steve. I forgot to mention that I bought the car from an official dealer.聽 The warranty states under the section "How to make a Warranty claim (UK)": Contact your nearest Audi Approved Centre or any other Audi Approved authorised repairer and advise them that your covered vehicle is protected by the Approved Warranty All Component cover. They will manage the claim process on your behalf.聽 I'm wondering if my independent garage could be "any other Approved Audi authorised repairer". Thanks very much again. Greatly appreciated.聽

Steve. Thanks again. Yes, that's been my experience of various dealers over the years. If they try to dismiss it then I'll call Audi customer service and/or pay for a 2nd opinion.聽 I've bought 8 used cars in my life, 6 of which went back with an issue in the first few weeks of ownership.聽
