Car cluster panel not coming on and radio says safe mode car starts and dies

Hi i have 2005 audi a3 2.0tdi has anyone had the problem of there instrument panel not working radio says safe mode but headlights inner lights etc work the car also starts and dies after it start even with abit throttle

A3s are known to suffer instrument cluster faults. Look back through recent forum history.
