psydj1 Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 Hi! My ECU connector is corroded with a couple of missing pins. This kind is apparently impossible to de-pin. I have two options: 1. Buy new Ecu loom -> cut my connector off -> solder the cables together 2. Buy new empty ECU plug housing -> cut my cables and apply new pins to them -> simply slot into the right spot in the connector housing After being unable to find an identical Ecu loom for months now, I came up with the second option. My main question is, is option 2 feasible at all? And how do I find the kind of pins that should go on the end of the wire? I'm unable to find it online. Car: Audi A4 B8.5 2012 1.8 tfsi black edition The connector plug unit code is: 4H0906971 Ecu unit code: 8K0906264
Steve Q Posted March 3, 2022 Posted March 3, 2022 Does Audi not even have the parts? I'd definitely speak to an auto electrican before doing either. 1
psydj1 Posted March 15, 2022 Author Posted March 15, 2022 I've spoken to two auto electricians and to Audi themselves. Audi claim they are the only ones who can de-pin them and replace individual cables. They are unable to tell me upfront how much it would cost... I'm not sure about that option.. Both electricians claimed they are unable to de-pin and re-pin empty housing.. and suggested cutting and re-soldering. I was told on another forum that it is in fact possible to depin that housing. I will attempt it this weekend. Maybe it's hard but possible. Could anyone suggest any tools that would make it easier considering this particular ECU housing? Thanks
Steve Q Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 I can't advise on the tools needed but my word of caution is that if you mess around with it, then can't do it Audi could refuse to do the job. Or charge you more. If you can get the car to them for a proper diagnosis then they can give you an exact price.
