RoyBrown Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 Hi, on my 2013 audi a4 2.0 tdi with 110k miles it shakes when accelerating on throttle, for example 60mph in 6th gear and put your foot in gradually the shake goes though the car and can see the gear stick shaking. The shake seems to be able to be controlled with the throttle, doesn't seem to come through the steering wheel I have had it checked over by a reputable mechanic and he could not see anything wrong in terms of cv joints etc. He also done some road tests measuring fuel and boost pressure but all appeared normal. One thing he did say was the clutch appeared to be that of what you would expect with the miles but said there was no apparent flywheel or release bearing noise. I know the chances of diagnosing this over a forum are very slim but just interested to see if this has happened anyone else before under the same circumstances?

Hi I had the same thing on my A6 which is not that different with how it works, my educated guess is its the engine and gearbox mounts, what happens is the engine mounts are Hydro mounts which are filled with oil and controlled electronically and stiffen up when stressed, the problem is they wear/split and the resulting vibration and movement knocks out the gearbox mount which is bonded rubber/metal, I got all three mounts on line from carparts in motion and if you ring them they are very helpful and what you want is listed normally on eBay and a damn sight cheaper than Audi, all the parts I bought were Febi and all movement ceased, I use the car as a cab and done over 9k since fitting just before Christmas and had no problems. Steve. Hi Steve, Thanks for the reply, good you got your car sorted! Did your happen to shake at idle or just when driving?

Hi just when driving and you could see the gearstick moving backwards and forwards when accelerating and decelerating, that part won't be noticeable as much in an auto equipped vehicle, the main benefits were smoother gear changes and the cabin was a lot quieter as one mount had spat all its oil out and the other wasn't far behind it, due to the torque the rear mount had gone soft so I replaced that as well Steve..

This is not a DIY job as you need a four poster ramp and a hydraulic gearbox cradle to take the weight of the engine, the mounts are available from Carparts in motion on eBay for about a third of what AUDI want for just one you can buy the pair and if you phone them they will tell you which listing to buy, my units have done 15k since fitting all fine and dandy, as you can see the dry one on the right is beginning to delaminate and the left had no oil. RoyBrown Posted April 25, 2022 Author Posted April 25, 2022 Thanks for the reply. I got a look at the car on my friends lift but could not see any evidence on oil coming out of these mounts specifically, looked dry and no really bad cracks on them. He seemed to think it felt more like a hesitation within the engine, but not sure. I might get a VAG specialist to investigate further.

Marko C94 Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Hi guys, have the exact same problem. Shaking is stronger when accelerating from low rpm, and stronger in higher gear(6th gear=worst shaking). Engine is 2.0. TDI, 105kw, A4 B8.5 Avant, s-line. So far changed engine mounts, both driveshafts, inner and outer cv joints, even opened a gearbox which looks as if left the factory yesterday, and in perfect condition. My clutch and flywheel make no sound and are in perfect state whatsoever. There are no error codes, even checked the injectors, there is no misfire ( at least when idle). Dont know what to do, car is perfect, 200 000km with no problem, never let me down.. I even learned hot to drive so it doesnt happen often..
RoyBrown Posted August 2, 2022 Author Posted August 2, 2022 @Marko C94 i never got this sorted on mine, anyone i left it with or got to check gave me too many opinions on what it would be. if you ever find out or solve it please let me know.... 1
SteveJ098 Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 (edited) Hi. I recently got to face somewhat the same problem with my 2016 Audi TT. We were riding on the outskirts of Dubai with a bunch of friends. We decided to have a drag race but knowing my car's limitations I didn't push it that hard. When I crossed 100mph it stated shaking horrendously. I instantly dropped the speed but the vibration was still there. I took to the closest Quick Fit's Audi Service Dubai Workshop the next day for inspection. The mechanics run some diagnostics and manual inspections and told me that the front struts needed to be replaced. I gave them a go ahead and they promptly finished their job. The surprising factor for me was their courteous nature and affordable prices. The car is now running perfectly fine just like new and racing is now out of question for me. 😅 Edited August 3, 2022 by SteveJ098

Do you have any plans to change it? My car has 120k now and it drives the same I dont believe it has got any worse. Im not sure if it ever has had a new flywheel or clutch before, but at £1000 for a new kit including fitting its an expensive gamble if it doesnt sort it!

My mechanic said that he need a car available for 3 days and he plans to deassemble all transmission parts.. he suspects it is either flywheel or differential mounts(lagers).. i will let him do that next month..
Marko C94 Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 Hi guys, just a quick update for those following.. finally found a solution.. one of my injectors was the issue, bought all 4 repaired , and car runs like a brand new.. no more shaking and gear knob is not going crazy anymore 🤣 2
pio14343 Posted May 13, 2023 Posted May 13, 2023 (edited) (2.0 tdi BMN PD170) Cambelt replaced Glow plugs changed Injector seals changed Injectors uv cleaned Just to add to this topic, I have recently found out my idle was rough at times and slight judder/vibration on acceleration. After replacing injector seals, uv cleaning injectors.. turned out that vibration almost doubled. Opened the valve cover and found out one bolt holding injector was fairly loose compared to others, nipped it up and it reduced the vibration, however it persists.. especially when I hit boost it feels almost like having a big washing machine in the engine bay, wich impacts performance. I will be going ahead and buying a second hand working injector, if that don't fix my issue, it most likely stems down to losing compression (valves, pistons or in worst case cracked chamber OR injector hole worn to oval shape over time) Anyone have got to some conclusions here and fixed their problems? Would be nice to know and let others see. Edited May 13, 2023 by pio14343
