Pmbf1 Posted April 23, 2022 Posted April 23, 2022 Hi all, can anyone please help me. I have a 2005 A3 2.0fsi. I recently had to jumpstart it as had a power drain some how. But since then I have had the yellow steering wheel light on and the steering was a bit heavier then normal. I have tried to reset the steering angle but with no luck, I even got it scanned which it came back with the angle sensor. So thinking it might be that the battery could be the issue not sending enough power to the steering, I put a new battery on it. And now the steering is really heavy. Would this definitely be the sensor or something else??
Steve Q Posted April 23, 2022 Posted April 23, 2022 Does the battery need coding to the car? I'd say it was the sensor if the battery is new and coded (if needed).
cliffcoggin Posted April 23, 2022 Posted April 23, 2022 The new battery will certainly need coding to the car, even if it does not solve the steering problem.

Steve Q Posted April 23, 2022 Posted April 23, 2022 This should help too: https://www.power-steering.co.uk/audi-a3-power-steering-problems-racks-and-pumps/ It looks like coding on the 8p was 2011 onwards. So in which case I'd be looking back to the rack for the issues. But here's some advice if it does need coding: "Provided the battery is the same type (AGM or EFB) and the same Ah capacity (within sensible variation e.g. 60Ag or 65Ah) then all you need to do is change the serial number, what you change it to doesn't matter - it just needs to be different. The usual advice is that it is enough just to change one digit." also this link might help: https://forums.ross-tech.com/index.php?threads/4112/

I thought coding was brought in after the introduction of start/stop (can't believe we've had that technology on main Street cars over over a decade!). So hadn't realised it was on earlier models.
