I have just bought a mk 1 tt quattro 2001 that has been unused for several years, but to good to scrap. i have put most things right but have a problem with the engine power surging on full throttle, especialy in the high gears from low revs.聽 If i accelerate through the gears it s not so noticable. Can anyone help ? Thanks.

Welcome to the forum you'll find the members on here are a friendly and helpful bunch 馃檪

I'd recommend a diagnostic check to see if any fault codes flag up.聽

My advice would be to look at the MAF sensor, lambda sensor, fuel filter (incase it's clogged especially if the car has sat along time), spark plugs/HT leads, turbo (assuming it's the 1.8)聽

Hi Steve, thanks for the reply.聽 It is the 1.8.聽 I have chanced the fuel filter and plugs when i gave it a good service along with all the usual suspects.聽 One thing i did notice when i was under the car was air blowing on to me from the secondary air pump and a white plasic seal it looks like hanging out of a riveted joint.聽 The haynes manual,(showing my age), sayes this is only for warm-up so i asume this is not the fault ?

Thanks

hi paul, the secondry air pump is a pain and its not much use but it needs to be functioning for emissions when its due the mot, theyre also known for leaking either from the unit itself or one of the 2 pipes.im not sure what the white seal isthat you mentioned.

I'd definitely start with a diagnostic check and then go from there.聽

Hi Steve.聽 I found a link on the forum on how to repair the secondary air pump using bolts to replace the rivets.聽 I removed the rivets, they basicly fell out, then pushed the white seal back into place and fitted a bolts either side off were the seal was.聽 That was 2 days ago and the car has run perfect ever since.聽 It cost 拢1.32 for 6 bolts, nuts and 12 flat washers !聽 The next job is the cam belt, can anyone recommend some one near high wycombe, south bucks?

thanks
