BLEED ABS PUMP

Procedure for Bleeding the ABS Brake Pump on VW Passat and Audi A4/S4, A6/S6, and A8/S8:

[Select]
[03 - ABS Brakes]

[Basic Settings - 04]
Group 002
[Go!]

This will trigger the ABS pump to turn on for about 10 seconds. You should hear the fairly loud pump clicking during this time.
Click the [Done, Go Back] button and you're all set.

Hi why do you need to purge the ABS pump, have you replaced it with a new one?

Steve.

I have replaced both front calipers and ran the ABS dry.

Hi Roy for future jobs invest in a couple of brake hose clamps they are cheap and better than having to bleed the whole system, the clamps use just enough pressure to crush the hose without damaging it so after you finish you can bleed the brakes conventionally using a gravity feed fluid bottle also cheap.

Haha, I've got some Steve.

My son lent me a tool from work that holds the brake peddle down, it causes a vacuum so that the fluid won't run out.

It worked great all the way through the job, until I took it off and went for lunch.

When I came back there was a pool of fluid on the floor.

I hadn't done the brake pipe up properly.

I live alone so I use a pressure bleeder.

When my wife was alive I used to drag her out to pump the peddle  haha

Hi I am in the same boat my missus has chronic COPD so even washing up gets her breathless that is until we go round TK MAXX, try the pressure bleed as the ABS unit can't loose all of its fluid as the detent valves on the out flow shut off when the system pressure is lost.

I'm in the process of painting some new rear calipers and discs.

When all done and fitted I will power bleed thw whole system and see where I go from there.

Hi I have power bled systems before after fitting a new ABS unit and rarely had a problem in all fairness you will be best served to use clear tube bleed pipe and have all four bleed nipples open and a gallon of brake fluid, should clear all bubbles after two and a half litres, nice paint again well done.
