Hi all. I have overfilled my adblue tank and now cannot get rid of the 650ml yellow spanner warning. I have tried turning ign on, waiting 30 sec and starting. Won't work. The adblue system was fine till i overfilled. I thought after level drops sensor would reset itself but to be honest i dont do that much mileage to see if that will work. Could i use a syphen hose and get some out that way maybe? Its doing my head in hearing that beep everytime i turn ign on. Any help on this would be amazing. Had it scanned today and mech was chatting maybe needs new tank. Cars only 67 plate. Surely not. £1000.

Hi what codes led him to believe it needed a new tank, the only codes I can think of would be to do with the reductant heating control other than that you can reset the level monitor with VCDS, I swear they just set lower levels at the factory so they can get a nice fat payment for doing the same I.E. £70 just to plug in.

Hi steve. One of them was the reluctant heater. I remember him saying. He has said he needs more time to go over stuff on the scan side. Its booked in for wednesday. Cant believe overfilling a tank would give me all this.

Hi if its reductant heater 2 thats just the one in the feed pipe to the engine the pipes a bit strong price wise but is fairly easy to replace, if its heater 1 it will need a new tank as 1 is built in to the reductant pump in the tank, half the time these things fail is because you are supposed to have the tank drained and flushed every two years to get rid of the adblue crystals the only theory I have for mine never having to have this done is the miles I do [CAB] whatever adblue I put in is not in there long enough to crystallise.

Thanks very.much steve for the info mate. Im sure if it is 1 or 2, but do know he pointed that reductant tank out off the list when he printed it all out. I wont be paying no grand for it anyway i know that. Cars on pcp 4 year lease. Ill either give it back or burn it. One or the other. As you can probably imagine im well pd off. Ive just spent 600 quid on 4 new tyres and a new battery. If i did get adblue tank done it would only be something else after that. See what the findings deffo are next week when he has more time with it. All i know b4 i overfilled the system was fine. Thanks anyway .

My advice regarding adblue on vag cars or jaguar landrovers is get the dealer to fill it up for you.

My wife has a jag XE and even though my wife and I are more than capable of filing it up, we take it to Jag for the technicians to do with Jag approved adblue. It has saved us at least a couple of times when the system has gone wrong as they haven't charged us for repairs because they can see only they've filled it up and Jag adblue used.

Hi Terry get them to do the reset on the Tank level first and see where it goes from there its all written in to the software and any daisy chain codings are often put in by the I.T. engineer who depending on what day he has had can make the results as average or horrific as he wants, my money is on a reset working, all this stuff is written to disable people like yourself from doing simple tasks and aim you back at the dealer, its all about making jobs for the boys and as for going to the dealer for an adblue fill up what a joke, you just need someone who knows how to do the reset and I am certain this level is set low from the factory a built in upcoming fault for the unweary.

Best news ive heard since the start of it steve. Everything was fine till i overfilled it. So i hope your right with the reset stuff. What do you think of this ablue removal thing. It is being offered online for £400. But i know someone who knows someone who will do it for £200. What is your input on this? Is it safe, does it work? I can have it done friday and they say no more adblue issues again!!! Im not booked in garage for the scan etc till next wed and im now on 600 mile countdown. I dont want to rush into something and be even more in a rabbit hole. Thanks steve. If i knew someone who had the vcds system id try that first but i dont.

Hi the delete of the system won't have any real effect on the running of the car but technically it is illegal as if done the people who did it will tell VOSA you told them the car was only for off road use, its a bit drastic considering that it worked before you overfilled it so therefore from what I know of these systems they can become confused and like your P.C need a reboot to get them going again AKA re education as it is only a simple logic run system, if all else fails have a look at the adblue defeat devices on the internet you can fit them to the OBD port and it shuts it all up in less than two minutes but I honestly think you would be better served trying to cure the existing problem as the electronics on these cars are beyond sophisticated and sooner rather than later the ECU will realise part of the system has been eradicated and start kicking off, as for the VCDS you can buy single VIN  or multi VIN  options it is not cheap but if you continue to own VAG vehicles it will save you a fortune as you can read DTCs and even if you don't know what they mean post them on here and I guarantee someone will know and where the part is on the car, in the last three years my system owes me nothing at all, I even made a few bob fitting sensors and re adapting them on my friends and neighbours VAG vehicles.

So you think im maybe best looking at buying the vcds myself? Is that what your saying stevie? Ive just looked at the procedure for resetting adblue fill sensor. It took all of 10 secs. Is there one you could reccomend me look at mate. Cos i may see that as an option. Someone wanted £30 on gumtree just to scan it. You have been a great support for me on here and i know your clued up amd know what ya talking about. If i get this sorted i owe ya a BIG DRINK!!! Yeah if there is a name of 1 you can rec for me to look into buying i may do that. Its only a plug isnt it and then were do i get the vcds software? Do i have to pay for that too?

Hi if you are thinking about buying VCDS have a little research session and have a look at the Ross Tech U.K. site they will give a list of U.K. distributors, what you buy in the various VIN levels is the interface and the software which once purchased is sent to you as a parcel, interface, and as a download you will need a computer to get the download, I chose to buy an old Dell 320 latitude as that had the capacity for multiple software programs and never goes near the net unless I require updates, speak to the supplier calls Marshall Industrial they are very helpful and will talk you through it, as I said its not cheap but since I have had mine at a cost of just over £400 for the ten VIN I have performed the following, re adaption of the battery when renewed on my daughters Q3, re adaption of her new throttle valve as well as putting the inspection reminder out forever, I did the same with the inspection warning on my car as well as re adaption of the new oxygen sensor I had fitted, I have also used it to do both vehicles rear brake lining changes as it puts the callipers into service mode fit new pads press button to take it out of service mode, good OEM rear pads are about £50 so why would I want to pay someone another £120.00 plus vat to change them, I have also re adapted multiple sensors on other vehicles and actually earned pennies for the task, I think you will be ok with the three VIN option which is a lot cheaper, give you an idea of how good they are when my mechanic changed my low pressure EGR valve and cooler you have to re adapt the new valve his new £5000 Snap on unit wouldn't touch it as it only had the facility to do the high pressure side, the suggestion was to get his mobile Audi specialist to do the job another seventy quid, I plugged in with my kit and did it in less than four mins, I did not use my Mac Air book for the download as it would have given trouble operating with their anti virus system therefore the Dell running windows seven was ideal, just ask their advice when speaking to them or I can ask my friend who is a computer whizz as he did my download and interface registering for me otherwise it could have taken weeks.

Hi Steve. Yeah i was looking at the 3 vin ross. I think its priced at £225. On the computer side of stuff, im ok with all that as i build my own gaming pcs. So on the software side nonproblem and i have a decent laptop running windows 11. It may be something i will look into once i sort my current issue out. I have decided to take your advice and leave getting the adblue system irradicated. It will probably make things worse down the line. That was always my worry anyway. The safety and longivity of it all. So im just gunna wait for my original app at the garage that scanned it yesterday and see if they can sort it. Ill know more after that. I still have 600 miles. Thats a long time for me. Just want to say thanks very much for ykur time and knowledge. I will let you know either way how it ends. Take care and thanku. Terry.

Hi steve. I just wanted to run this past you from today for your take on it. Yesterday i was on a 600 mile countdown and now after being out in the car for a bit, when i started my car it was showing the max 650 mile countdown??? Weird. Do you make anything of that? Maybe once i get level sensor reset if i can it will all go back to as it was. For some reason its gone back to maximum miles.

Hi that is an indicator of how easily the sensor software goes up the wall, if its reset when the tank is full you should have no more problems, at least if there is a next time if you have the software you can do it yourself and there is always the bonus of scanning whenever you want which often as not flags up developing problems before they get terminal.

Hi steve. Its give me the 650 mile countdown from 600 but im still getting the adblue beep and warning on my dash when i press start button. But im going to liverpool today for a few days. 80 mile round trip so should lower the level of adblue and see were im at sunday when i get home. Thanks again mate. Appreciated. It is a good sign that the countdown went back up to 650 from 600. I reckon its still showing overfilled and im hoping that when the level goes right down itll be right again. Speak to you soon bud. Take care.

Hi steve. I just wanted to let you know after starting my car the last 3 times, no adblue warning beep and no yellow spanner. But the engine management light stayed on. Then on the way to liverpool the eml went out too. So it looks like adblue level has dropped and everything has now reset itself. It was a good sign yesterday the countdown going up instead of down. So i wont be doing that again. Next time i get warning im just putting 10lts in cos i know from first time that was ok. Cheers for everything. Take care. Bye. Terry.

Hi Steve,

How's the car running since you had the EGR cooler changed? Did you change the valve too?

Was it the cooler or the G450 sensor you needed to adapt?

UDS Protocol (G450) procedure

Key ON, Engine OFF
[Basic Settings]
Select Adaptation of diff. pressure sensor particulate filter
[Go!] to activate the Basic Setting.
After the result of Finished Correctly appears click [Stop]

Select Resetting of learned values of difference pressure sensor
[Go!] to activate the Basic Setting.
After the result of Finished Correctly appears click [Stop]
[Done, Go Back]

Hi steve. Needed new pressure sensor and adblue pump. Going to cost about £2000 to put right all in. I got rid. Traded in for 17 plate mondeo. That audi was a shed. It looked nice but mechanicly it was run in to the ground.

Posted

The pump is not seperate. You have to buy new tank at the cost of £1000. Then presure sensor, vat on parts and labour cost. The mondeo drives a 1000,000 times better. Audi was too expensive. After the adblue stuff it would of been something else. A money pit.

I think we've crossed wires here.

I was asking Steve about his EGR cooler and pressure sensor he mentioned in his post I quoted.

I'm assuming the light came back on since your reported on July 1st that it was ok?
