DPF issue

My fan has been coming on regularly over the past few months. I have a short commute to work each day (10miles) but drive my car on the motorway for 3hrs every weekend as I stay at my girlfriends. The engine light came on and the computer said it’s DPF issues. I’m not sure what I should do. My mechanic said to remap my car and delete the EGR as he says it’s a sensor issue (don’t want to do this). Should I bring my car to a DPF cleaning specialist or should I bring my car to an Audi garage to get them to sort the issue? I’m afraid Audi will charge through the roof to fix a problem that might be quiet small. I tried to force a regeneration in my car yesterday but the light stayed. My car is running perfectly atm. Any advice is really appreciated

Hi Paddy, if you can publish the codes that have come up that would give a vast insight in to whats going on, the term DPF issues is a broad church and I agree with you not going down the delete route as it will definitely come back and savage your backside and your wallet at a later date so please, please, codes then we can very possibly aim you down the cheaper more practical route, DO NOT GO TO AUDI, unless you want to remortgage your house and sell the wife and kids to a white slave trader.

Hi Steve,

How would I go about getting the codes? Would I get my mechanic to plug back in the computer and take it down and/or take pictures of what it says?

Hi yes you need a copy of the codes that he reads and preferably take a picture of the screen and post it on here, should he refuse find someone else to scan it, the codes are the key to fixing your problems and believe me anything is curable from that information thats why we have fault codes.

I know this answer might be coming a bit late, but I wanted to sharesome info that might be helpful for others who are facing the sameissue. I recently came across some DPF cleaning services that might beworth checking out. One option is the Duramax diesel particulate filtercleaning service, which could potentially help resolve your DPF issue.

Hi, im new and just accross thus thread.

I got a similar dilemna. Engine light came on for 1.5 days then switched. I then coincidently had my MOT week later where it was still off thank god.

Passed no issues but he mentioned a fault code suggesting egr cooler issue and after running egr test where they measured air in flow etc confirmed pretty much that issue. He said though as my engine light is off its not an issue till its consistently on. Quoted me £1600 for strip, replace and put back together and this is an Audi specialist. So read about the remap/egr delete.

What's the cons of this?

First is better if you come whit more details about your car, engine, year etc. If your egr problem is not bad try to avoid start stop option, short drive distance, use a  fuel sistem cleaner  for a few months. I don't believe egr delete plus remap is  a good options for long time especially if you want to sell car, or on Mot emissions test.

Hi, sorry.

2014, diesel, 75k miles.

Always used premium diesel. My driving is mostly local but in 2 weeks i start a new job where i have to travel 100 miles for 1 day a week which i hope helps. I also planned to sell the car anyway just after christmas once i renewed my mortgage anyway so the timing of everything isnt great but dont want to fork out £1600 before i sell it. Luckily so far its been 2 weeks since the light has been off.

Yep had all that done last week as always have MOT and Service done at same time and this time around was a full service anyway. Would you recommend one over of the other? And do they do the same thing?

TBH it sounds like your dpf cleared naturally by doing a regen like its supposed to do,i deleted mine and the EGR and had a remap so the lights dont come up any more, went thru the MOT ok......trouble is if i ever sell it i would have to inform the buyer.

Thats what im considering doing. The good about the place my friend has used is they will charge a mere £30 to put my original map back on the car if i want to reverse it when it came to selling as they store the original map.

Im looking into egr blanking as well but not sure who can do it for me local to me in Leicester.
