A4 Avant B7 Auto CVT Diesel

My B7 won’t go into park, meaning my key is stuck in the ignition. I have found lots of posts on various forums of people with the same issue and a couple of suggestions but can’t find anywhere where the OP has posted to say the eventual solution.

The car drives fine and all gears work properly. All gears light up on the dash properly when selected (including park). The gearbox also seems to select the park gear no problem. However, the gear lever button does not pop out when pushed into park (it pops out fine for all other gears) so it won’t release the key from the ignition.

An OBDII scan doesn’t reveal any fault codes.

It did this a few weeks ago and I removed the panel around the gearstick and removed a load of coins etc that had fallen down and although none seemed to be in a place that would be causing any issues the problem seemed to be solved (until yesterday). Anyone else had this issue and managed to solve it?

Hi parking position sensor on the gear stick, best get it scanned and see what it comes up with.

Steve.

Thank you for the replies. It seems to be sorted (for now at least anyway). There was a loose bolt/clip which has now been tightened with the clip moved about 5 mm to its original position (based on the old marks on the clip from the bolt) and the key came straight out then. Touch wood all seems ok for now.
