Mo cars mo problems
Hi, I have a 2013 a4 avant (2 wheel drive), and yesterday the rear wheel had a puncture, after looking at the tyres, both are wearing excessively on the inside edge down to the wire. Both tyres have around 5mm tread everywhere else馃し ive seen four wheel alignment but is this just for the Quattro? Or could the issue be something more sinister like a suspension issue? thanks
Magnet
Hello Scott, With any uneven tread wear, the first port of call must be to have the car thoroughly inspected for wear. Actually adjusting the alignment must be the last job. The logic is:- when the car was new, the alignment was factory set so that the tyre wear would be even, so if you rears are wearing (grossly) uneven, then obviously something has changed - the adjustment cannot move).聽 Yes, you can have 4 wheel alignment carried out, but simply adjusting without a thorough check will be a complete waste of money. It鈥檚 not uncommon for front alignment to be out, but rear - less common - broken springs??聽 Who to do it? There are plenty of tyre outlets/ garages who have the sophisticated equipment - using it properly is another thing! - so choose carefully. Where in Wales are you - it鈥檚 a big place. Kind regards, Gareth.聽
Mo cars mo problems
Thanks Gareth. we鈥檙e in wrexham but have just moved here so don鈥檛 know of any reliable garages (without paying Audi prices). a spring might be the problem as we鈥檝e had a strange noise when turning, but I鈥檝e had them checked out when the noise started, maybe they missed it.聽 once I鈥檝e had the tyres replaced I鈥檒l have to find somewhere to check the suspension setup.聽 聽 thanks for your response, you鈥檝e just saved me paying for a wheel alignment馃憤
Magnet
Thanks Scott, Just don鈥檛 home in on possible spring issues - it could be any thing.聽 Kind regards, Gareth.聽
ninjag
Could be a rear trailing arm/bush? A 4 wheel alignment should reveal an issue with non-adjustable areas.
