Gearbox codes

I have a 2006 tfsi quattro special edition with bul engine and 6 speed manual gmv gearbox, the pinion bearing in the box decided to  itself a couple of years ago so I got it repaired. Now 2 years later the dreaded whining is back so im thinking of just replacing the gearbox. I'm struggling to find a gmv box in my area but there is a gve box nearby from a 2006 quattro. My question is will the gve be compatible??
