Morning gents, came to my car this morning and the dash lights and dials are completely dead, car runs fine, everything apart from the dash lights and dials. I'm trying the fuse for it this afternoon fingers crossed its just as simple as that, just curious if anybody else has had this trouble? And how it was solved, thankyou in advance 👍

Daryl.

It's probably a faulty instrument cluster. If so your options are a new one from Audi or to have it repaired by one of several specialists that you can find on the internet. Search through previous queries on this forum to find others with the same problem. I seem to recall a cost of £200-250.

Thanks cliff yes it's looking like your right, I've change the fuse an still nothing, so I've been in touch with a local auto electrical place and got it booked in, the guy said it'll probably a fault with the cluster an need sent away for repair, no quotes yet. I may have a go at removing it myself yet as the bookings not for 2 weeks, have you removed one before on these?

Cheers cliff, tried to get in touch with the guy that posted the thread yesterday, no luck as of yet. Maybe there's a YouTube tutorial for it.

What thread do you mean? The only one I saw was about a fuel pump.

Hi there are tutorials for this dash removal on YouTube they are not difficult, would suggest using ECU Testing, google up their site and put in a request they are very efficient and that is where the other guy got his fixed.

Yes cheers Steven I've already seen them, looks straight forward I'm going to remove it later this week, I've spoken to a few auto electricians who've said they'd put money on it being the instrument cluster needing repaired with it being fairly common on a3's. Will definitely consider them if the other guy had a good experience with them, I'll get in touch today, thanks👍.

So I had the instrument cluster sent away to be looked at to ECU testing, and I heard today that they couldn't find a fault, but with the symptoms I described it is a common fault and can he intermittent, so I can have it rebuilt to rule it out for 180, the thing is when the fault came about I drove it for just over a week and it didn't work once... so I'm torn what to do, and I'm not exactly flush at the moment, so can't really be affording to blow 180 on nothing.

That's unfortunate, but what else can you do? I suspect the lack of speedo and dials would be an MOT failure.

I've just gone ahead with it cliff, like you say what else is there to do.. atleast then that's ruled out. Fingers crossed it works when it comes back! Failing that Itll be taking it into an auto electrical place.
