PIT237 Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 How much engine vibration is normal? I've just bought a 58 plate A3, and dont know if im over worried about how much it vibrates, it sounds a little louder than im used to, but should there be anything to worry about?
Magnet Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 Hello Paul, Thanks for joining. Engine - petrol or diesel? Kind regards, Gareth.
cliffcoggin Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 In addition to Gareth's question, what size is the engine and how many miles has it done?
PIT237 Posted April 24, 2023 Author Posted April 24, 2023 Oh yes sorry its the 1.9 TDi, done just over 100,000 miles
Magnet Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 Hello Paul, You could spend on diagnostics, or if it were mine, I would be getting a local diesel specialist to give an opinion on it. It could be an injector or quite a number of other reasons, inc. engine mountings etc. etc. Any undue smoke or excessive smell of diesel? Did you buy it from a dealer? If so, you should have redress if it has an issue, so time is of the essence in getting it looked and and reported on. Kind regards, Gareth.
PIT237 Posted April 24, 2023 Author Posted April 24, 2023 I've got it booked in with someone next week, no smoke or anything like that, and no unusual smells. It was a private sale, it wasnt so much of concern that i didnt want to buy it, but just for peace of mind it would be good to get it checked out

Hi if the engine mounts have never been changed its probable they have become worn/split, they only last 100k max as a rule of thumb, also gearbox tail shaft mounts last about the same. Steve.
