jmikeyh Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 Hello guys Not very experiences mechanically but I've decided to replace the bushes on the front suspension of my car as it was noted as an advisory on it's MOT a couple months ago and I just today heard a knock from what I believe was the suspension. I would like to clarify something before I order the wrong part and end up with a ballache job on my hands. MOT technician noted: Front Lower Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement both sides (5.3.4 (a) (i)) I've gone under the car and had a feel of the bushes, and I believe he is talking about the lower control arm bush, I've attached a photograph - the one with the circle is the one I've felt and think needs replacing. I didn't notice anything obviously wrong with the one on the other side but presumably that is the other advisory bush. I tried to find a "lower control arm bush" on Car spares and euro car parts, but I'm wondering if I am getting mixed up with American and UK/Euro English names for these parts (most of my learning is from YouTube, lots of American input) and I'm having a hard time finding what I think is the right part. Is a wishbone the English name for this part? Is it the same bush for the trailing arm? I've got a few candidates... https://www.onlinecarparts.co.uk/lemforder-9668025.html?gshp=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwm4ukBhAuEiwA0zQxky-OmemxiI8_1HWaKlf4NH-73lgnlQ47h6KVkMAXOkscUOI0nK6NqxoCcmIQAvD_BwE https://www.eurocarparts.com/search/610220705?gclid=CjwKCAjwm4ukBhAuEiwA0zQxk9bFoaVzWbycDztix2kilDfk7CEnFZR0Q9mNY9O-3HQs4tz4nEAbehoCdRYQAvD_BwE https://www.autodoc.co.uk/sidem/7766309?gshp=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwm4ukBhAuEiwA0zQxk_PfDMi7fDMU62QSKw7OA1W0aayR3nanLOpY0FyOC3Z28jgdRJLW9hoCZvIQAvD_BwE Any input appreciated, thank you
Steve Q Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 I'd agree with you that it's the control arm bush. Very common to fail on VAG cars. For clarity you could always take it back to the MOT test station to confirm our suspicions
