Hi , I bought a 2018 a6 c8 avant 40 tdi sport mhev about 3 months ago , I’d read everywhere that this model had intelligent coasting but didn’t seem to be working , I put it down to a low battery as it struggled starting sometimes , anyway I explained to Audi in Blackburn that I had a lane assist not available msg coming up now and again , and again I presumed that it was due to a low battery so I said to them can you check the start stop battery , the lane assist fault and the hybrid system as it wasn’t coasting , firstly they said that I’ve listed three faults and the diagnostic is £180x3 which is my first complaint as that’s ridiculous as it just wants plugging in , then they said that my car doesn’t have coasting and only available on petrol versions , luckily for ne my car was under warranty from a garage I’d bought it from so I didn’t have to pay , , I’ve since took it to a Audi specialist and they said because my battery was low the front camera had lost calibration and has now been fixed , and hello suddenly me car is coasting (not for long but it’s definitely doing it , anyway my question is , is there any written proof anywhere that says my car has this coasting, I’ve even tried customer services and been through to tech support but it’s a call centre in South Africa and I get knowhere , I just can’t let it lie as it’s unbelievable how they don’t know how there own cars work

All the C8 A6 MHEV engines, diesel and petrol have the coast feature.

Page 5 is from the Audi press release for the A6 which confirms-

The conditions for it to work are quite specific. In mine it works fine but does not work on demand as such unless you are driving a relatively straight road coming to a junction/round about or if the car detects a slight decline in the gradient in the direction your heading.

it won’t work if the road is not relatively straight, or if the gradient is excessive in any direction it won’t work.

The information you were provided is nothing short of being fobbed off along with what is from my experience working in the motor-trade given the quoted diagnostic figures you stated somewhat cements my opinion as it is calculated on a labour rate which tends to be around an initial hour £75-£125ph to verify the fault followed by further estimate costs to continue diagnosing/repair.

Coasting is on my 40TDI A6 and it could need a battery charge, as stop -start will not work below a certain charge value.

As for the lane assist this is uses the forward facing camera

For what it's worth, I finally got MHEV working in my A6 40TDI Quattro over the last two days. This was achieved by using Efficiency mode, which I hadn't used before, and on long stretches of motorway with noticeable downhill stretches. The M2 heading towards Dover from the Dartford Bridge for example. The longest I observed MHEV working was about 40 seconds, sometimes much less. The A in a circle that comes on when the stop/start system cuts in will show next to the D symbol in the virtual cockpit.

According to the trip computer, I was getting around 56-58mpg on average and sometimes more (Helped if the aircon was completely off). The Aircon eco mode seemed to work fine, not much difference from normal in today's temperatures.

In Auto drive mode, I did notice the MHEV cut in a couple of times very briefly, so briefly I probably wouldn't have noticed. The transition was pretty seamless.

For the original poster, I'd driven over 3000 miles before noticing any of this, and my normal commute doesn't have any roads where the MHEV cuts in when using "Auto" drive mode.
