Hiya,

I am having issues with my A5 2011 2.0 diesel sportsback car.

I have had it around 9 years and always service it and look after it. It's done 130,000 miles now and timing belt etc. has been changed.

However, just recently the car is shaking when idle. But drives perfect. And there is no warning lights on the dashboard.

I took it to a local garage and they could not pin point the issue and said they will start of the least cost item i.e. sensors on the fuel pump. But that will cost me £1000. But not guaranteed to fix the issue!

I wish someone can help me to advise what could be the issue. Really appreciate any feedback you can give.

Hello Cheran,

I’m sure Steve Y will be able to make more sensible additional suggestions, but worth checking engine mountings.
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Hi Gareth,

Thank you so much for your reply.

This was checked and they seem okay. The rpm needle keeps jumping from 1000 rpm to below and back and forth. Only when Idle. Any further help would be appreciated.

I had this on my A4 B8 2.0 diesel at more miles than your car has covered.

As posted elsewhere on this site (search my posts), I did something like:

Cleaned MAF sensor

Checked glow plugs resistance (all ok) and checked caps were seated properly

Might have been something else but I can't remember just now, but the problem went away.

When was air filter changed?

Cataclean would be something else to try.

Throttle valve could also be an issue if the above does no solve the issue.

Hiya, thanks so much to contact me.

So the air filter, throttle body and egr valve have been changed.

Still get the same issue. Took it to the garage and all cables were check and no lose/damaged ones.

I looked for your posts and cannot find any that relate to my issue.

I will try Cataclean and see what happens. Any other advise would be appreciated.

Thanks C

Have the glow plugs been checked, and MAF sensor cleaned as suggested in my last post?
