Johnnym Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Yea I have got more questions, I I am trying to get my A5 Sportsback 1800T servicing up to date New to me 2015 50k Checked 4 years service records Engine oil changed March 23 No sign of Gearbox oil being changed. Its now 50K and 8 years old this seems to be in the required range for a change ? Also water out of the sill ok its discussed but where does it get in ? I am shown how to drain it, But should any be in there to start with ? Where is the hole or is this hole designed in. Is there a memo from Audi to prevent it ? Water in metal sills is this a good idea or am i missing something in my old age. ( seems likely) Johnny M 1

( seems likely) Johnny M 1 Hi now would be a good time to change the gear oil and filters if its Auto and just the oil if its manual, the entry for the water I have no idea but if you can drain it invest in a Waxoyl kit and using the hose supplied Waxoyl the sills to death through the drain holes. Steve.
Johnnym Posted August 3, 2023 Author Posted August 3, 2023 Hi Steve Yes Auto I thought it was about that time I am just trying to get things levelled off from a service point of view. Ok on the water Well I like to cure the problem rather that treat it to be honest has no one done that. All years seem to mention it. My 8 year old must be rusty as hell inside the sills. GREAT So do new ones have the same problem. I don't understand holes and plug so it must be built in then. ? I have had some bangers in my years but never one where you drained the sills. I am sure this has been discussed to death Pardon the nebie bringing it up again. Oh my dipstick came earlier lol Johnny M
jdragon Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 Gearbox oil change is an interesting topic. Audi and the specialist I take the cars to say for my A5 B9 manual, it's a sealed box and doesn't need changing. The specialist however did say if I'm having issues, and if not, leave it alone. My old A4 B8 had a slight issue at 140k so the oil was changed and slik50 (I think it's called) added and it's now on 265k with the new owner and trouble free. 1
Squashman Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 I agree, I had an A5 2.7tdi auto (2009). It had done 160K at the time I gave it to my son. I bought it at 98K. I don't believe the oil in the gearbox has ever been changed and it is absolutely fine thus far. So, I am often a believer that if it isn't broken don't fix it. Obviously not always the case on things like engine oil. I also understand it is quite a big job and not straightforward. 1

Hi the sealed bit is a load of garbage, they only ever did a sealed gearbox 2009-2011 with catastrophic results, Ford did a sealed box on the early MK4 Mondeo it was designated power shift and was a huge failure, when I asked the dealer when I first got my car at 38k the exact term was gearbox is FILLED FOR LIFE, then emailed Audi in Germany who said, No change the oil every 50k or five years, if you think about it all that high grade sintered steel flying about in a bath of oil with the occasional bit flying off which is suspended in the oil until it by force of gravity hits the bottom of the casing, now imagine the same scenario with burnt worn oil, believe me it wont end well, I change my oil every year and as you said add SLIK50 you can't go wrong with that and a couple of bottles of Fuchs Titan, new box [manual] is just over five grand +fitting, DONT GO THERE. jdragon Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 Thanks Steve; I appreciate your thoughts and advice. I'm up to 93k now......I should probably get this done
