ChrisB9
HI All I have an issue with the DIS where it randomly switches its self off for no apparent reason. It can be off for months, and then randomly switch on again. This week I was sat in queue, operated the electric windows, and the display went off. When it's on it functions perfectly, no display issues or any other problem. When it's off, it also takes out the steering wheel mounted telephone controls. I have tried to switch on again via the bottom mounted RH stalk switch but this doesn't switch it back on or get any response. It looks like a power line fault, but I haven't a clue where to start fault finding. I'm not an auto electrician, but an engineer with a mix of skills. Has anyone seen something similar or can someone point me at a sensible place to start. The wiring diagram's I've found so far haven't been particularly helpful either Thanks in advance
Steve Q
Have you had a diagnostic check to see if any fault codes flag up? How old is the battery? A failing battery can cause all sorts of electrical gremlins.
ChrisB9
@Steve Q the garage haven’t flagged anything previously, but I can take it in and have them double check. Battery is interesting, think it may be the original battery. Can’t tell which is the batch / date code, any thoughts? I can post some pics if that helps? ChrisB9
@Steve Q No fault codes. Any further thoughts on battery date codes? Looking on-line, replacements are quite pricey @ £200 +
Magnet
Hello Chris, Best option would be to get the battery efficiency checked, rather than try to find out how old it is. Halfords should be able to do that. Buying batteries from Halfords ??? Where are you searching for battery prices? Try, Battery Megastore, Tayna etc. and look for prices of brands with 4 year warranty - Bosch/Varta, Exide etc. Kind regards, Gareth ,
ChrisB9
@Magnet Thanks. Battery prices were from a quick goggle search, I forget what popped up, maybe Amazon? Bosch equivalent looked to be about £250. I'll check out Halfords for an efficiency check. Thanks again for the input Chris

Magnet
Hello Chris, Search EBay:- Car Parts Bargains ( off shoot of ECP) have the same at £161. Parts in Motion have it £171. Don’t forget I’ll be after a hand out of 10% of the saving!! Kind regards, Gareth. p.s. P in M often have an up to 20% discount at the end of most months, so worth hanging on-? ChrisB9
Just had a battery check done by the local garage (they're good, helpful and we have a good relationship). Battery health showing at 38%. Which sound to me pretty poor. Any thoughts? Thanks
Magnet
That equals on its very last legs Chris! Surprised you’ve got away with it for so long. Well at least you now have best options to buy its replacement. Incase it helps, I’ve bought an Exide - Premium ( didn’t go for cheaper Excel) from Tayna. Very impressed with the weight at least. Worth a look at? Let us know how you get on. Kind regards, Gareth.
ChrisB9
Thanks @Magnet for the recommendation. Yes I do a long distance commute every 2 weeks which I think keeps the battery healthily charged Just having new discs and pads, battery next 🙂
